Juneteenth exists because the slaveholders in Texas deliberately buried news of the Emancipation Proclamation to squeeze another harvest or two out of enslaved people.

That is the reality behind Juneteenth. It is a stark reminder that July 4th doesn't represent freedom for everybody.

Today is about honoring the truth and celebrating the absolute resilience of the generations who kept this history alive long before it ever became a federal holiday.

I've been hard at work painting suncatcher designs for this weekend's Make + Take event at Cultivated Essentials, and I'm loving how they're turning out! 🌞🎨
Also, before anyone says anything... no judging the super comfy coffee PJs. When you're spending the evening creating, comfort is part of the creative process, right? ☕😂

Today has been spent painting a fresh batch of hair clips and putting together some brand new earring designs. There's something so satisfying about watching a pile of tiny wooden pieces turn into wearable art.
