The National Day of Prayer is an annual day of observance designated by the United States Congress and held on the first Thursday of May, when Americans are asked "to turn to God in prayer and meditation" to pray for the nation.
Originally established in 1952 and signed into law by President Truman, it invites people of all faiths to pray in churches, groups, and as individuals.

National Astronaut Day is an American commemorative day held on May 5th since 2017. It celebrates the first United States human spaceflight, on May 5, 1961, piloted by astronaut, Alan Shepard.

A fun astronaut fact: Unlike on Earth, where a day usually consists of 12 hours of light and 12 hours of darkness, in space astronauts get 45 minutes of daylight and then 45 minutes of darkness. This ongoing cycle occurs 16 times a day and the astronauts experience 16 sunrises and sunsets during their orbit.

Maine's first summer tourists are almost here! Have you seen one yet?

Few plants are blooming when Ruby-throated Hummingbirds first arrive, so nectar, their primary food, is scarce. Please get your hummingbird feeders cleaned up and ready to welcome our favorite tiny summer visitors!

Hummingbirds typically arrive in Maine from Central America in early May, with males arriving first to mark their territory, followed by females and juveniles about two weeks later. The first arrival date varies from year to year, but May 1 is considered "Welcome to Maine" Day for hummingbirds.
