A dated 1980s cottage on Little Traverse Bay became a serene coastal sanctuary through thoughtful design, careful editing, and a deep respect for the home’s character.
For our Timeless Treasure project, the Cottage Company Interiors team softened dark colors and heavy florals with creamy trim, beadboard, wainscoting, muted blues, and layered textures. Every space was reimagined for the way the homeowners live, from a formal living room transformed into a library and dining room to an enclosed porch that now serves as a sunroom for three seasons of Michigan living.
Inspired by a treasured pale blue antique Swedish Mora clock, the home’s palette feels calm, collected, and timeless. Antique pieces remain throughout, giving each room a sense of history while creating a fresh, coastal retreat along Little Traverse Bay.
Timeless design is not about starting over. It is about knowing what to preserve, what to refine, and how to create a home that feels beautifully lived in.
