I’m more excited about this than any human ought to be about something that’s legal !
I gave a great deal of consideration as to how I would present my advance copy of Past Forward to you, my friends, clients and followers. Instead of the typical moody cover shot that the big name designers and architects typically do, I decided to just be myself….and GUSH 🖤
No doubt this won’t be the first time or last time for me to just be the Black Sheep with y’all!

My publisher at Rizzoli sent me his first copy of the book and I am, quite literally, over the damn moon!

This book represents my life’s work as the steward of our family’s house. It shows the passion I have for historic preservation, both of our built environment and of our material culture manifested in collections and southern sensibility. It shows passion for good design and thoughtful placement of things with soul. I owe a great deal of gratitude to Bobby McAlpine for his validation of my dream to create this document. He has long been an inspiration to my work.

Past Forward is quite full of beautifully languid and soulful images by the uber talented Hector Sanchez all arranged and woven into the text and captions by another talent, Doug Turshen. You will be blown away by the sheer beauty of the book and then, captivated by the story crafted from my life and words by Susan Sully. Y’all, talk about a team!
The roles played by photo stylist Mark Thompson and interior designer Bonnie Cofield kept the images “real” and not contrived.

Thanks to all of you for your support! The book will hit the market in mid September. You can certainly preorder yours now from your favorite book seller and bring it to one of my book signing events across the country for a personal autograph and message.
And, if you’ve read this post this far I bet you won’t mind doing me a huge favor… stop in at your favorite local small bookshop and ask them to carry my book in their store. I’m not a big name and hence they might skip over this one.
Don’t let them! It is so good, promise!
