Meet Rocky. 🐾

Our family has grown by one tiny (very loud 😅) member.

Rocky earned his name because he’s been a little fighter from the very beginning. His barn cat mama unexpectedly left him behind in our shop, and after waiting what felt like forever for her to return, we realized this little guy needed help.

So… into the house he came.

Since last Wednesday, I’ve been on round-the-clock bottle duty, running on very little sleep and a whole lot of kitten cuddles. 🥱❤️

Rocky has already taken his first road trip — all the way to Seattle for Mother’s Day — where my mother-in-law, who has experience raising bottle babies, helped me learn the ropes of kitten care. We were both very grateful for Grandma’s expertise.

At this point, I think Home & Makers may have a new unofficial mascot. 🐱

If all goes well, Rocky will likely be hanging out with me at the shop on Thursdays if anyone would like to meet him.

I’m grateful on Mothers Day for four women in particular:

My Mom, who is a model of strength and resilience. She’s a Marine Corps veteran with a fun and generous soul. She has spent her adult life creating treasured memories for our family and I’m grateful for the precious time we get to spend together as adults right now.

My Mother-in-law, who is sweet, kind and wicked smart. She is an amazing cook and a fun travel companion and she raised a wonderful man for me to love.

My “other” mother. My best friend’s mom who accepted me as a second daughter, made me feel valued and made me laugh - a lot.

My biological mother, who gave me up for adoption over 60 years ago. She gave me the gift of family in two ways: Making it possible for me to be adopted by the best parents I could ask for, and by giving me additional siblings I’ve grown to know and love in recent years.

Thank you and Happy Mothers Day to Peggy, Sally, Shirley and Janet. Two I get to talk to today and two in heaven. I’m proud to carry pieces of each of these women with me every day.

Happy 20th anniversary to the guy who supports my every crazy idea: Move to a tiny town in Eastern Washington? “Absolutely!” Lease a vendor mall? “Ok!” Buy the building? “Sure! Here’s a full analysis of the best way forward.” How about we do all of that then buy the house in which I grew up? “Let me just get this application filled out.”
He’s the smartest, kindest, best husband ever and I’ve been lucky enough to be married to him for 20 years today. Love you, Norm! ❤️

Gather & Grow: succulent edition was a big hit! Seven participants came from Spokane, Deer Meadows, Davenport, Harrington and Sprague to learn about planting and caring for succulents year around. Colleen from Farm to Market shared her experience with the group and refreshments were enjoyed. Although, next time we will remember to keep the drinks separate from the dirt! Happy May Day! I love small town life. 🥰 The Harrington preschool class delivered May Day flowers to seniors and others around town. It’s a longstanding tradition and I remember how much my mom enjoyed the visit and flowers each year. My new little friend gave me the sweetest bouquet and signed card. 💐
