Today, throughout our country, the machine tears away incessantly at nature, but in Harrisville the stream continues to flow as a perpetual reminder of those brief but exciting years when the machine and nature were working as one. Perhaps it is the persistent shadow of this organic relationship which still tempers the quality of life and form in Harrisville; it was certainly the relationship whic

“Find your fulfilment. Find what you can do the slowest, for the longest and still absolutely love it, and go in that direction.”

We love this quote by one of our personal heroes, Christina Koch, NASA astronaut. It was in response to a question about one’s passion in their professional path, but we find it so fitting for life in general.

In our recent e-letter, we wrote about summer garden plans and drew parallels to working on our crafty long-term projects through these warmer months, reflecting on the time all good things take.

For those long, shimmering days when it’s simply too hot to work with wool, we’re glad to have cellulose options. Brenna, weaving extraordinaire here at HD, has been working on a number of overshot projects, experimenting with using Gist Beam Organic Cotton as warp, and Highland for the weft. They make a great pairing, and we’re pleased to offer Gist Beam 8/2 in our online and retail stores.

Here’s to making the most of these long summertime days. What projects are you working on now with Fall fruition in mind?

Fresh colors spinning up at the mill: some see a vivid Fall palette, others see a temperature gauge reading warm now that the growing season is in full swing. Which song of the season do you pick up from these?

We know wool isn’t often the first thing that comes to mind for summertime knits, but with the right shady spot (or climate control) we’ll be found knitting away on some long term projects for later this year.

✨ Out today: ✨ Finest Kinder by Alicia Plummer !

We adored the original Finest Kind sweater released in April 2025 and are thrilled that a version sized for children is here. To celebrate the release, Alicia is generously offering a 25% discount on both patterns - head over to Ravelry, and enter code “finest25” at checkout.

Both Finest Kinder and Finest Kind are worked in Shear Wellscroft Dorset Aran - our locally-sourced, small batch woolen-spun Aran has become a well-loved offering. We hope to have our Wellscroft Dorset yarn back at some point, but if you’re looking for other alternatives, our Highland line is an excellent choice - you may find a little one’s favorite color among its 64-shade palette. Shear Merino-Dorset Aran Buttermilk is another great option for this lovely pattern if you’re looking for a classic, warm white wool.
