Built-in, aged, salvaged, tiled or disco balled - yes please! Truth is, I've been researching mirrors lately, exploring ways to incorporate them into the home for economical, emotional, and ecological reasons. Mirrors reflect light and space, increasing both, of course. But mirrors also capture movement inside and outside the space, adding constant change, dynamism, visual interest, and connection to surrounding environments.
Which is why the mirror-clad and cantilevered Duan Family Center for Computing and Data Sciences at Boston University, my alma mater, was a highlight of our recent tour of Beantown colleges for our oldest.
Also known as Jenga Tower, the multi-award-winning structure by KPMB Architects (a Canadian firm that won the job through a competition), boasts 19 stories, 345,000 sq. feet, is LEED Platinum certified and the largest Green building in Boston.
Being there as neighboring University stood brave to was an unexpected inspiration. Both the building and the gesture underscore our need for universities that advance and inspire not only students but pretty much everyone else.
And around we go 🌎 🌈 🤞❤️🩹🫶
