There has been a lot of conversation lately about AI and its place in our industry. I've enjoyed exploring how it can automate administrative tasks, analyze business data quickly, and even help edit documents. As a creative, I'm excited about using AI to free up more time for the work that truly brings me joy. But projects like this remind me why the heart of our craft will always be human.
Transforming this room into a nursery was a true team effort—from the designer's vision, to the contractors, to the talented mom-artist who hand-painted the incredible mural, to the seamstresses here at In the Fringe who brought every textile detail to life.
There were so many skilled artisans working behind the scenes to make this space feel extraordinary. Every step mattered: measuring, cutting, sewing, turning, inserting cord, twisting, pleating, hand-tacking the crisscross fancy headers, and applying the jumbo pom-poms that give these draperies their personality and set them apart from anything you could buy off the shelf.
These are the tactile, hands-on processes that feed our souls as craftspeople. They require patience, experience, and care. And I believe that every stitch carries something more than craftsmanship—it carries the presence of the person who made it.
AI is an incredible tool, and I welcome what it can do for our business. But it can't replicate the feeling of something made by human hands with genuine intention. It's a little like Grandma's famous cookie recipe. You can follow the same ingredients, but somehow they never taste quite the same without the love.
That's the difference handmade still makes.
