FYI, the wall behind the dumpsters is historic brick that was supposedly retrofitted when the DVAC occupied the building.

Ironically, this is the same address where the Carlton’s Steakhouse kitchen grant was transferred after being taken from our property at the southwest corner of Harvard and Florida—a location with a lawn, patio, and mature palm trees that would have made an outstanding destination restaurant.

During a public meeting, a representative for Carlton’s Steakhouse stated at the podium that she believed Simon Chu and Jason Strain had misrepresented the property to her. As a result, downtown Hemet lost what could have been a major catalyst for economic growth, investment, and revitalization.

Once again, an opportunity that could have benefited the entire community was lost amid controversy, misinformation, and ongoing attacks against the McPherson family.

Lori VanArsdale to Simon Chu’s rescue once again. In this email the city is encouraging Simon Chu to at least paint some murals over the broken windows at the once beautiful and historic Gibbel building. We painted our murals at this same time in an attempt to cover graffiti and try to bring some culture downtown and now we’re being punished for it.

I was right all along about the illegal gas hookups at Krupa’s Kastle, 118–126 N. Harvard. The facts continue to validate what I’ve been saying from the beginning. The deeper I dig, the more evidence comes to light. There is now so much documented evidence of misconduct, selective enforcement, and questionable decisions that it’s becoming difficult to keep track of it all.

The truth has a way of surfacing, no matter how hard people try to bury it.

In May code enforcement officer Javier Nolasco resigned, and City Manager Mark Prestwich retired. About six months ago, City Clerk John Maier also left City Hall. In my opinion, all three were honest public servants who were willing to do their jobs and pursue accountability. Unfortunately, that appears to have put them at odds with a system that too often rewards loyalty over transparency.

As more records are released and more facts come to light, the pattern becomes harder and harder to ignore. The question is no longer whether there were problems. The question is how much longer the public will tolerate them.
