***September 11 We Remember***

Twenty five years have passed.
But some days are never meant to be forgotten.

Today, our community takes a moment to remember September 11, 2001.

We remember the innocent lives lost that morning nearly 3,000 people who left home expecting an ordinary day, but never returned. We remember their names, their families, their friends, their dreams, and the empty spaces they left behind.

They were not numbers.

They were people.

We remember the heroes who ran toward the danger.

Firefighters climbed stairwells while others desperately tried to escape. Police officers entered buildings knowing they might not come back out. Paramedics and emergency workers treated the wounded. Civilians helped strangers, carried one another, opened doors, offered shelter, and did whatever they could to help someone else survive.

We remember the people who made the ultimate sacrifice trying to save others.

And we remember the heroes who had four paws.

Guide dogs helped their visually impaired partners navigate the confusion and darkness toward safety. They trusted their handlers, guided them through unfamiliar surroundings, and refused to leave their side.

Search and rescue dogs entered an environment almost impossible to imagine mountains of debris, smoke, dust, heat, noise, and destruction. Alongside their handlers, they searched for survivors and helped locate those who never made it out.

They didn't know what had happened.

They didn't know why the world around them had changed.

They simply knew they had a job to do.

Find them.
Help them.
Stay with them.

For some victims trapped beneath the wreckage, the arrival of a search and rescue team represented something incredibly powerful:

Hope.

We remember the handlers who trusted these animals with their lives.

We remember the dogs who worked until they were exhausted.

And we remember every human and animal who answered the call.

But September 11 was also a reminder of something else.

For a brief moment, a divided nation stood together.

Flags appeared everywhere. Strangers helped strangers. People lined up to donate blood. Communities gathered. First responders from across the country traveled toward New York, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania to help.

People stopped asking, “What separates us?”

They asked,

“How can I help?”

That unity is part of what we remember, too.

Today, we don't remember September 11 to glorify tragedy.

We remember it because forgetting the people who were lost would be another loss.

So today, let us remember the mother who never came home.

The father whose children waited for him.

The firefighter who climbed the stairs.

The police officer who entered the smoke.

The stranger who carried someone to safety.

The guide dog who led its partner toward an exit.

The search and rescue dog who climbed through the rubble looking for a heartbeat.

The handler who refused to give up.

And every person who, in the darkest hours, chose to help someone else.

**We remember the lives.
We remember the sacrifice.
We remember the courage.
We remember the heroes.
We remember the dogs.
We remember the unity.**

Twenty-five years later, their stories still matter.

The buildings may be gone.

The smoke may have cleared.

But their memory remains.

May we never reduce them to a number. May we never forget what was sacrificed. May we never forget what courage looked like that day. And may we never forget what it meant for a nation to stand together.

🕊️ September 11, 2001 We Remember.

Never forgotten.
