From closed-off and compartmentalized… to a bright, open-concept gathering space!

We’re currently remodeling this Reston, VA kitchen by combining the existing kitchen + eat-in area into one expansive 320 SF open kitchen and dining space designed for better flow, function, and entertaining.

Demo is underway, and the vision is coming to life:
• Complete custom kitchen layout with all-new cabinets throughout
• Large new 8’ island 
• New countertops + backsplash
• Removing a wall and pocket door openings to create a more open layout
• New windows and patio door for a refreshed look and natural light
• Refinishing hardwood flooring throughout for a seamless finish

This mudroom is getting an upgrade with a longer custom bench, a storage shelf underneath to keep everyday essentials organized, a new floating shelf for more storage, classic shiplap walls, and bold navy paint that adds depth and personality.

Back on-site in Oak Hill and this transformation is moving right along ✨

Today our team is painting the two-story living room walls and tray ceiling after repairing cracks. It’s a big room with a lot of detail work, and the fresh paint is already making such a difference.

We’ll also be continuing the staircase refinishing process, installing new hardwood flooring throughout the first floor and upstairs landing, and recarpeting all of the bedrooms for a cohesive updated look throughout the home. 🛠️

This grand entry just got a stunning refresh with one of the most classic design combinations of all time — black & white checkered tile. Sophisticated and forever in style.

A black and white checkered floor instantly creates a high-contrast, upscale aesthetic that acts as a timeless statement piece for the home — perfectly balancing historical grandeur with sharp modern minimalism.

We also sanded and refinished the staircase, bringing new life back to the original wood steps, updated the front door for a fresh new first impression, and completed the transformation with new handrails and balusters for a beautifully elevated look.

One remodel, two distinct moods. It’s amazing how much the countertops define the energy of a space.

We relied on the countertop selections to really anchor the energy of each space. For the main kitchen, we chose Taj Mahal Ice Flakes Quartzite—it’s luminous and crystalline, keeping the heart of the home feeling airy and bright.

But for the scullery? We took a moody turn. We grounded those deep green cabinets with Black Granite in a leathered finish. It adds a tactile, matte edge that completely transforms the vibe of this hardworking prep area.

It just goes to show: your countertop choice isn’t just a surface—it’s a major player in the soul of the room.

Big things are happening on site. ✨

The transformation of this gorgeous butterfly staircase is officially underway! We’ve removed the old runner (and every last nail, staple, tack strip, and bit of padding) and completed the full sanding process—giving these stairs a fresh foundation for what’s next.

Meanwhile, 6,000 pounds of solid hardwood is acclimating in the client’s sunroom before installation—stacked perpendicular to the floor joists (yes, that blue tape marks the joist direction 👀). It’s one of those behind-the-scenes details that makes all the difference in a quality install.

The prep work may not be glamorous, but it’s what sets the stage for a flawless finish. Stay tuned for this transformation. 🔨

A custom piece starts with the perfect material.
Sandra sourced this gorgeous American Black Walnut from the Midwest for our client’s counter-height table, with plans to bookmatch the top and waterfall leg so the grain flows continuously from surface to side. And yes… matching floating shelves may be in the works too.

You’ve watched this transformation unfold, and now we finally get to share a first look at the finished project.

The main kitchen was completely reimagined by removing two walls (including one load-bearing) and opening up the entire layout for better flow and natural light. It now features two oversized islands designed for cooking, gathering, and everyday living, along with a beverage station and thoughtful details that make the space both highly functional and beautifully finished. New windows and glass slider doors bring in even more light and connection to the outdoors, making the entire space feel open and inviting.

Just beyond the kitchen, the dedicated scullery adds serious function with extra storage, prep space, and organization to keep the main kitchen clean, streamlined, and ready for entertaining.

Progress check ✔️

We stopped by one of our new construction projects this week for a site visit as our clients get closer to their May move-in!

The goal? Checking in on the build progress and confirming all final window treatment measurements (because details matter). We were especially excited to see the front door officially installed—it’s always exciting when a home starts to feel like home.

Our team is designing and furnishing all of the main entertaining spaces, including the kitchen, living room, dining area, game room, and basement rec room—creating a cohesive flow for the way this family will live, gather, and entertain.

We’re also planning custom floor-to-ceiling, inside-mount shades throughout the home, which means coordinating with the builder now to ensure every finishing detail is prepped for a seamless installation later.
It’s all part of the process—thinking ahead, managing the details, and making sure everything comes together beautifully.
