Pine needles and fresh flowers are often used in Mayan ceremonies and celebrations throughout Guatemala, alongside locally made beeswax candles and cacao, a sacred offering with centuries of history in Mayan ritual.⁠

As designers, we see color a little differently.⁠
⁠
I find it in the playgrounds of San Juan La Laguna, the weathered yellow buildings of Antigua, and the extraordinary blue of Lake Atitlán (and as an open-water swimmer, I’ve seen a lot of blue! But this one feels different)⁠

I also find it in Maya huipiles, where color and symbolism work together to tell another story, inviting us to read between the threads.⁠

Those moments stay with me.⁠
⁠
