The Atwater Village kitchen is nearly finished.
Soapstone countertops bring depth. Heath tile adds handmade texture and warmth. Mixed metals throughout let the fixtures feel collected rather than matched.
These photos capture a kitchen built to be lived in, cooked in, and gathered around for years to come.
At RJH Design Studio, we are accepting new clients for the fall. The fall is the perfect time to get started on the design process.

This kitchen remodel is almost complete. I can’t wait to share when it’s finished.

Summer is not over yet. The nights are still warm. But the mornings tell a different story now, with backpacks by the door and school lists taped to the fridge, the first signs that this season is beginning to turn.
This space was designed for exactly this moment. A long table for the last unhurried dinners before schedules tighten. Cushioned seating that holds a whole family at once, still in swimsuits, in no rush to go inside. String lights for the nights that run later than planned.
Soon the mornings will be about lunches and backpacks and getting out the door on time. There is comfort in that rhythm too.
Design that holds a family through every season, including the ones that ask us to slow down before they end.

A well-designed room has layers, and the most interesting layer is almost always the one that came from somewhere unexpected.
The Long Beach Antique Market is one of my favorite sourcing grounds, not because everything there is interesting, but because the right things are there if you know how to look.
Antiques do not compete with new furnishings. They complete them. They are the reason a room stops feeling like a showroom and starts feeling lived in.
If you have been wondering why your space feels finished but not quite right, the answer often lies here.

The Woman’s Club of South Pasadena project is complete. The dining room features a stunning wallpaper from Morris & Co., bringing elegance and history to the space. In the entryway, we added a built-out ledge and fresh paint to define the area and create a welcoming moment as you walk in. It was a pleasure to serve as a design advisor on this project. did an incredible job leading the overall design and managing every detail.
I’m looking forward to styling it and getting it professionally photographed soon.

For the client dreaming of an ADU or a guest house of their own, this one is for you.
The Costa Rica Casita began with raw land. No existing structure to renovate, no bones to work around. Just a blank canvas and the opportunity to build something entirely intentional from the ground up.
What emerged was a guest retreat designed to feel like an extension of the landscape itself. Locally sourced stone sinks that ground the space in place. Custom teak furniture built for the way people actually move and rest. A hand-painted jungle mural that brings the surrounding greenery indoors, so the line between inside and outside starts to blur.
Whether it is a casita, a guest house, or an ADU in your own backyard, building new gives us the freedom to design with total clarity of purpose from day one. No compromises. Just thoughtful design.
If you are considering an ADU or a new build and need someone to lead you through every stage of the process, I would love to talk. Send me a message or visit the link in my bio to schedule a consultation.
