From heart to HART. 🤍

A look inside the inspiration, details and design decisions behind HART’s new Dallas home. Bright, eclectic, and collected, just as we imagined it.

Mirrors can do so much more than fill an empty wall. We use them to:

🪞Bounce light
🪞Create a sense of depth
🪞Reinforce architecture
🪞Break up the expected

Sometimes that means an oversized mirror that holds its own like a piece of art, other times it’s a tiny vintage find tucked into an overlooked corner or layered among a collection.

The trick is to think less about where a mirror is “supposed” to go and more about what the room needs it to do.

A great host knows it’s never just about the food.

The dining room itself shapes the experience, creating a space where conversation comes naturally and guests want to stay awhile.

Here are five elements we always consider:

1. A table that fits the scale of the room and the way you entertain.
2. Chairs comfortable enough to linger over drinks or dessert.
3. Lighting that creates atmosphere instead of just task illumination.
4. Materials that become more beautiful with every use.
5. Enough negative space for the room to breathe.

Because the best dining rooms feel just as inviting on a Tuesday night as they do during the holidays. 🍽️

Not all texture has to be rough.

When we think about adding texture to a home, materials like linen and wood usually come to mind first. While those elements add beautiful character, they’re only one side of the story.

Velvet introduces texture in a completely different way.

Its plush surface catches the light, creating subtle dimension while bringing an unmistakable softness to a space. It’s one of the few materials that adds visual interest without relying on a coarse or heavily woven finish.

The best part? Velvet is incredibly versatile. It can become the focal point of a room through a statement sofa or quietly elevate a space with something as simple as a trim detail.

The key is balance. Pair velvet with natural materials and clean architectural lines, and it feels fresh rather than formal.

Because great rooms aren’t built from one texture. They’re built from contrast.

The best lighting plans don’t rely on a single fixture. They layer light.

If you look closely at nearly any Burkle Creative project, you’ll notice one thing repeated over and over… every room has multiple sources of light working together. It’s one of Javier’s core design principles because great lighting doesn’t just illuminate a space, it shapes how it feels.

Every room should include three layers:

Ambient :: Your primary source of light that fills the room and establishes the overall mood.

Task :: Focused lighting designed for a specific activity like reading, working, cooking, or getting ready.

Accent :: The finishing touch. Picture lights, sconces, table lamps, and decorative fixtures that add warmth and draw attention to the details you want people to notice.

When all three work together, a home feels balanced. It’s not about adding more light. It’s about adding the right light. 💡

A great view is a bonus. A great interior is intentional. ✨

For our Ritz-Carlton project, sculptural furnishings, rich materials, tailored upholstery, and thoughtful layers come together to create a sophisticated high-rise retreat. Jewel-toned fabrics add depth, warm wood tones bring balance, and carefully curated silhouettes give each room its own point of view.

The result is a home that balances drama with comfort. A sophisticated retreat designed for life above the city. A reminder that the best interiors don’t just stand out, they rise above.

A room without texture is a little like an outfit without accessories.

The foundation may be beautiful, but it’s the layers that bring it to life.

Cane, wicker, and woven details add character in a way color alone never can. They introduce pattern without feeling busy, soften hard surfaces, and help a space feel layered rather than flat.

A few of our favorite ways to bring natural texture into a room:

👉🏼 Furniture: Start with woven pieces that anchor the room.
👉🏼 Lighting: Add texture where the eye naturally travels.
👉🏼 Accessories: Layer baskets, trays, and objects with character.
👉🏼 Walls: Raffia frames and woven mirrors bring dimension vertically.

The best rooms aren’t built around a single material. They’re thoughtfully layered, balancing smooth with rough, polished with organic, and old with new to create spaces that feel inviting.

There’s something special about a great accent chair. 🪑

It can anchor a room, fill an empty corner, introduce a new pattern, or become the piece everyone gravitates toward. While they may not be the largest item in a space, they often have the biggest personality.

We love using accent chairs as an opportunity to take a risk. A heritage print, an antique find, or an unexpected silhouette can add character, making a room feel personal.

This week, we’re pulling up a chair and sharing some of our favorites. From timeless classics to statement-makers, these are the pieces that prove good design is always worth sitting down for.

White paint is one of the hardest colors to get right.

The brightest white isn’t always the right white. The best white is the one that brings balance to the room.

One of the biggest mistakes we see? Choosing a paint color from a tiny chip and calling it a day. White is incredibly reflective, it changes with the light, your flooring, countertops, millwork, and even what’s outside your windows.

Before you commit:
• Test large swatches
• Look at them morning, afternoon, and night
• Compare them against your fixed finishes

Honored to have Javier featured in sharing our approach to choosing the perfect white. 🤍

Americana style is less about the literal stars and stripes (although we do love them) and more about character. 🇺🇸

It’s worn leather that gets better with age. Tailored plaids, ticking stripes, and heritage patterns that never go out of style. What makes it so enduring is its ability to feel both polished and approachable.

The best spaces don’t look decorated overnight. They feel gathered over time, mixing treasured pieces with new finds destined to become part of the story.

One of the biggest misconceptions in design is that a beautiful home requires starting from scratch. Some of our favorite projects begin with the pieces clients already love. The chair passed down from a grandparent. A collection gathered over decades. The artwork that has followed them from house to house.

While we love a blank slate, designing around what already matters is often what gives a home its soul. The goal isn’t to erase the past. It’s to build on it, creating a home that honors where you’ve been while leaving room for the memories still to come.

To us, that’s what Americana has always been about.
