You know that feeling when you discover an artist whose work you absolutely LOVE? 😍

And then one piece turns into two...and before you know it, you're starting a collection. 😂

We recently had a customer bring in three pieces from an artist she absolutely loves, and we had so much fun helping her frame them.

Because when you find artwork that really speaks to you, the last thing you want to do is throw it into just any old frame and call it a day.

You want the framing to complement the artwork, not compete with it.

And that's something we're pretty passionate about here at Hoosier Highlander.

We look at the colors, the style, the details, and the overall feel of each piece before we start narrowing down frame and mat options.

One of my favorite things about custom framing is watching everything come together. Sometimes the perfect combination surprises you, and other times you know the moment you put a frame next to the artwork.

Either way, it's so satisfying when you find THE ONE!

Okay, Linkin Park fans...this one's for you! 🎸🤘

We recently had the opportunity to create this awesome shadow box featuring a Linkin Park T-shirt, album, and album cover, and it turned out amazing!

Now, I don't know the story behind these particular pieces, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say this customer is a pretty big Linkin Park fan. 😂

When you love a band, sometimes the music becomes so much more than just something you listen to.

It reminds you of certain times in your life, concerts you've attended, people you've shared those songs with, or maybe just the way a particular song made you feel.

Whatever the story is behind this collection, these pieces obviously meant enough to someone that they wanted to get them out of storage and onto their wall.

And that's where we come in!

One of the things I love about shadow boxes is that they allow us to take items that wouldn't normally fit inside a traditional frame and turn them into something you can actually display.

T-shirts, albums, concert tickets, memorabilia...there are so many possibilities!

Okay, this is one of those projects where the story behind the photograph is just as incredible as the photograph itself. ❤️⚾

A customer recently brought us a treasured photograph featuring two women who were very special to her.

Her grandma and her "aunt."

But these weren't just any two women...

Many decades ago, they played in a women's baseball league!

Think about that for a moment.

At a time when women's opportunities in sports were far more limited than they are today, these women were out there playing baseball and becoming part of sports history.

And now, all these years later, their story is still being told.

The original photograph had suffered some damage over time, so before framing it, we did a little restoration work.

We carefully used Photoshop and AI to repair the damage while keeping the photograph true to the original. Then we printed a fresh copy right here in the shop and finished it with beautiful custom framing.

And I absolutely LOVE how this one turned out!

But what makes this project even more meaningful is the personal connection.

This isn't just vintage baseball memorabilia someone picked up at an antique store.

These are women who were part of our customer's family. Women whose accomplishments and memories deserve to be preserved.

We're honored that she trusted us not only to frame this piece, but to help give an old family photograph new life.

Sometimes the projects that come through our doors are more than artwork or photographs.

Sometimes they're pieces of history that deserve to be shared with future generations. ❤️

And this one was definitely something special.

Who says words can't be artwork? 😍

We recently had a local calligraphy artist bring in several pieces to be framed for an upcoming show, and I wanted to share this one because it feels especially fitting.

ARTIST.

One simple word...but look at how much personality it has!

When most people think of calligraphy, they probably picture beautiful handwriting on wedding invitations or fancy envelopes.

But calligraphy can be SO much more than that.

The shape of the letters, the movement, the spacing, the way the ink flows...all of those things become part of the artwork itself.

You don't need a landscape, a portrait, or an elaborate painting to create something visually interesting. Sometimes the letters themselves are enough.

Of course, our job was to help give the artwork a finished presentation that would complement the artist's work when it goes on display.

We're always excited when local artists trust us to frame pieces for their shows. It's pretty cool knowing our work gets to be a small part of how their creativity is presented to the world.

Now I'm curious...

We had a familiar face stop by the shop recently...and he wasn't here to pick out frames! 📸

Local photographer Pete Doherty stopped in to sign a couple of his beautiful photography prints that we had printed right here at Hoosier Highlander.

Once signed, they'll be framed and headed to the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center gift shop!

How cool is that?!

There's something really special about seeing local artists have their work displayed and available for people to take home. Especially when that artwork captures the beauty of the area we get to call home.

And we love that we get to play a small part in making it happen.

From printing the photographs to framing the finished pieces, it's always a pleasure working with Pete and helping bring his photography to life beyond the camera.

So if you're visiting the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center, be sure to check out the gift shop. You just might find the perfect piece of local artwork to bring home!

And remember...supporting local artists doesn't always mean buying an original painting. Photography is art, too! ❤️

When you own a frame shop, and you bring home a concert poster from your favorite band, you don't just throw a basic frame on it and call it a day. 😂🎸

At least not if you're Renee!

She knew the framing needed to be just as amazing as the artwork itself and she definitely had some fun with this one!

She started with a stacked frame. If you're not familiar with that term, it's exactly what it sounds like...two different frame mouldings stacked together to create one unique frame. In this case, she paired a rustic black frame with a gorgeous teal one.

But she wasn't finished yet!

See that little pop of yellow on the inside?

That's a custom-painted fillet!

A fillet (pronounced fill-it) is a small, decorative piece of moulding that can be added inside a frame or mat opening. It's one of those little details that can make a BIG difference in the finished design.

And because finding the perfect yellow wasn't enough, Renee painted it herself to get exactly the color she wanted.

Now, with all those colors happening in the poster AND the framing, she needed something to bring everything together without making it feel too busy.

Enter the simple black mat.

Sometimes the most understated part of a design is what makes everything else work. The black mat gives your eyes a little place to rest while allowing all those incredible colors to shine.

Black, teal, yellow, and one equally vibrant concert poster...and somehow it all works PERFECTLY together! 😍

It's so fun when we get the chance to be creative with our framing because there's so much more we can do than simply choose a frame off the wall.

And when one of our designers gets to combine their creativity with something they're personally passionate about, well...you get projects like THIS!

Ohhhh, did we LOVE how this one turned out! 😍

We recently had the opportunity to frame this beautiful, painting, and while the artwork itself is absolutely stunning, can we take a moment to appreciate that FRAME?!

We chose a gorgeous Spark frame, and I don't think we could have found a more perfect combination.

The details in this frame are incredible, and we loved how beautifully they complemented the painting.

Seriously...ZOOM IN and take a closer look at that frame! 🔍

Sometimes a simple frame is exactly what a piece needs. Other times, the artwork calls for something with a little more personality, texture, and detail.

And this was definitely one of those times!

That's what makes custom framing so much fun. Finding that perfect combination where the artwork and frame just WORK together.

And when you find it, you know. ❤️

Every once in a while, a piece comes through our doors that makes us stop and say WOW! 😍 And this is definitely one of those pieces!

We have a customer who travels to Nepal and brings back some of the most incredible artwork and frames. And we're fortunate enough that he trusts us to bring the two together.

Now, when I say these pieces are intricate, I mean INTRICATE!

The frame itself is hand-carved, with an incredible amount of detail and craftsmanship. And the artwork? Hand-painted with just as much attention to detail.

It's amazing to think about the time, patience, and skill that went into creating each of them.

And while we love showing you the projects that come through our shop, I have to tell you...

This photo doesn't even BEGIN to do this piece justice!

There are so many tiny details that you really need to see in person to fully appreciate.

One of the things I love about custom framing is that we get to work with artwork from all over the world. We may be a little frame shop in Highland, Indiana, but some of the pieces that come through our doors have traveled thousands of miles to get here.

And there's something pretty special about being trusted to work with pieces like these.

We're honored that this customer continues to bring his treasures from Nepal to us, and we can't wait to see what he brings back next! ❤️

What was your favorite game or toy growing up? And more importantly...do you still have it? ❤️

We recently had a customer bring in something that held a whole lot of childhood memories...but here's what made this project even sweeter.

It was his wife who brought it in for him. ❤️

Her husband had a collection of little metal hockey players from a vintage tabletop hockey game. You know the kind...where the players moved around the rink as you controlled them from the sides? Almost like foosball, but with hockey players!

She wanted to find a way to preserve and display the individual players.

And that's where we got to have a little fun! 🏒

We designed a miniature hockey rink, printed it right here in the shop, and mounted it onto matboard to create the perfect backdrop. Then we carefully attached the individual metal players and brought everything together in a shadow box.

The result? A little piece of his childhood, now transformed into something he can proudly display on the wall.

And I absolutely love the thought behind this.

His wife knew these little hockey players meant something to him. They weren't just old pieces from a game. They were reminders of something he loved growing up.

And instead of letting them sit tucked away in a box, she found a way to make those memories part of their home.

Sometimes the best gifts aren't new things...they're the things we've loved for years, given a new life. ❤️

It's also a great reminder that custom framing isn't just for photographs and artwork. Sometimes it's for the toys, games, and little pieces of your childhood that you just can't bring yourself to part with.

If we could have one superpower at Hoosier Highlander, I think it would be the ability to know which frame is perfect for every piece of artwork. 😂

Speaking of superpowers...

We recently framed this awesome piece of Superman artwork for a customer who is a HUGE Superman fan.

I love when someone is so passionate about something that they build an entire collection around it. Whether it's superheroes, music, sports, or something completely different, there's something really fun about seeing what people choose to surround themselves with.

We don't have to be Superman fans ourselves to appreciate how much this artwork means to the person bringing it in. Our job is to help make sure it looks fantastic alongside the rest of his collection.

No cape required. 😂
