They wore dragonflies on their helmets as symbols of courage, because a dragonfly only ever flies straight forward toward its goal, never wavering from its path.

Did you know Japan was once called Akitsushima — the Island of the Dragonfly?

Legend says Emperor Jimmu looked out over the islands and thought their shape resembled a dragonfly in flight, and ever since, the dragonfly has been a symbol of courage and good fortune there.

I like to think a little of that courage is buzzing around my hut.
