Every Scholarship Begins with a Donation: Mountain Findings Awards $64,000 in Scholarships.
HIGHLANDS, NC — Mountain Findings, a nonprofit run entirely by volunteers, has awarded $64,000 in new scholarships to 12 graduating seniors at Highlands High School. The organization is also distributing $40,000 in continuing endowed scholarships to past recipients as they complete their education, bringing its current investment in local students to more than $100,000.
Every scholarship begins with a simple donation. Through donated goods and volunteer support, Mountain Findings helps students pursue trades, certification programs, two-year degrees, and four-year degrees. This year’s funding milestone underscores how everyday household donations can create life-changing opportunities for local students.
“Housewares or furniture donation can make an immediate difference,” said Dan Rupp, president of Mountain Findings. “A sofa, set of end tables, pair of lamps, an area rug, and accessories can generate enough to provide a scholarship for a local student entering a trade program. And when someone donates the contents of an entire house, the impact can be even greater still. They are helping create opportunity and invest in a brighter future for students.”
During the summer and fall, Mountain Findings is open Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, visit www.MountainFindings.org or Facebook.
Donations may be dropped off at 452 Spruce Street or scheduled for pickup by calling 828-526-9929. Contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
