The unexpected star of the Skidmore graduation party besides the Grads themselves? These incredible live illustrations by .

I’ll admit… I was on the fence about having an illustrator at the party. We hadn’t worked with Jenny before and I just didn’t know what to expect, but gently insisted and thank goodness they did. Guests were completely mesmerized watching her and her team including work and left with the chicest little keepsake from the evening.

And while every sketch was amazing, my favorite has to be the illustration of my four children — including Rory, the fab grad himself.

At this point, even if I host a dinner for four, I may need Jenny there sketching cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. Truly one of my favorite party details ever.

Cycles of Life.

Forty years ago, I was blessed with the friendship of a group of women at 219 East Franklin Street in Chapel Hill. Many of those women are still part of my life today, and last week I had the joy of celebrating the next generation of Kappa Delta graduates — including one I’ve watched grow from a toddler into a vibrant, kind young woman I’m so proud to know.

Happy Graduation weekend, Scotty! May these ladies bless your life the way your mom and our friends have blessed mine.

Loved the graphics created for the luncheon and used as inspiration for these centerpieces. Feels so good to be able to use Orlaya, Peonies and Delphinium from our own cutting garden for these beauties as well as beauties from .

If you know me you know I love working with massed Hydrangeas and when asked for them we might have done overboard. For this Fearrington wedding, we layered Colombian and Dutch hydrangea to create that full, cloud-like abundance—slightly varied tones, a touch of antique wash, and just enough movement to keep it from feeling too proper. The woven vessels add warmth and a bit of Southern Charm.

Design note: mixing origins,Dutch and Colombian, give you depth that a single variety doesn’t provide!

Just a little Pisces moment… ♓️💫

Huge love to for catching us mid-install at Art in Bloom 2026 at NCMA—equal parts chaos, creativity, and “wait, one more stem.”

Could not have done this without Anita Valerie and Heather ../absolute dream team energy. If you snagged a ticket, consider yourself very lucky… yin and yang will be up all weekend.

Big Question… what to do with them when we are done. I think Ali will kill me if I try to shove on more thing in our newly organized studio!

Blue and greens and quite serene! Cool hydrangea, crisp greens and leggy Larkspur It’s the kind of palette that feels effortless—but don’t be fooled, there’s a whole lot of florist fussing behind that “just gathered by the sea” look! And boy did we have fun fussing!

My favorite thing to do with Tarantula amaryllis?
Break the rules.
Short stems. Torn edges. Curled lines.
Designed low and sculptural a vase by Abigails now retired, but you can easily sub Vietri Hibiscus Vase. (Believe it or not. Vietri is right here in Little Hillsborough and a wonderful women owned company).

Amaryllis keeps giving. As each bud opens, the arrangement quietly evolves—new lines, fresh movement, more presence. It’s why this bloom makes such a smart holiday centerpiece: simple, sculptural, and long-lasting, with something new to admire every few days.

My favorite thing to do with Tarantula amaryllis?
Break the rules.
Short stems. Torn edges. Curled lines.
Designed low and sculptural in the Abigail vase—now retired, but easily done in the Vietri Hibiscus vase. (We are a big fan of Vietri right down the street here in little ole Hillsborough).

This is a centerpiece that shows visual interest on the bottom and will give you a new view each day as each of those four buds begin to open. Amazingly the centerpiece will last through the Holidays!
