Sharing the misfortunes of farming isn't easy. Farming is typically rewarding, but it demands fortitude to work with the unpredictability of nature. Today was such a day. Rising early to tend to the flower field, I paused beside the blooming wildflowers to sit and pray for rain, hoping to foster their growth. However, our area was hit by a severe cell in the early afternoon, bringing with it straight-line winds, substantial rain, power outages, downed trees, and a disheartened flower farmer, all within a span of 18 minutes.
It is hard not to see past the damage and believe all is lost at this time. The crop is more resilient than I believe it to be and I more stubborn to quit. Inevitably, there will be flowers lost, harvest time delayed and replanting.
