Happy 16 years. Life may be hard but being married to you never has been. Not sure how I got so lucky. I’m really sorry I’m at a furniture install on the seacoast all day 😅 hopefully we will have a million more anniversaries to celebrate ❤️

This isn’t my home, but it feels like it is.

I fall in love with all of my projects for different reasons, but this one - this one - with its timber frame structure and natural stone … the vibes were just so on point with my childhood home that being here feels so familiar.

Add to that, the face behind the camera is one I’ve known since childhood. You know how music can instantly transport you to a time? Like make you feel like you are RIGHT. THERE. I think laughter does the same thing. Your laugh never really changes. So here I am sitting on this hearth laughing with an old friend. It was a long week. But this wasn’t a long moment.

Being back in a timber frame home also reminded me that this is probably where my hatred of overhead lighting began. When my husband and I bought our home 15 years ago, we paid all this money to have a bunch of recessed lighting put in and I literally never turn them on. (He likes to remind me of this often 😅) Instead, I choose to have approximately 12 lamps in every room.

But you see - when you grow up in a home made entirely of wood, that wood soaks up all the light, so now I’ve developed the light sensitivity of a bat 😂 I’ve heard people with blue eyes are more sensitive to light. My eyes are the color of hot fudge, so that fact relates in no way to me. But I thought it was a fun fact, lol.

(You can maybe now guess my age by the fact that I just used “lol”)

I intended to sit down and write an about me post to go with this photo, but this has become something else entirely. Welcome to the mind of a creative brain. I usually just roll with it, so I’m gonna post this now. Thankfully, I have lots of other fun photos to post with more fun facts at another time.

PS - I am curious, anyone else have weirdly specific lighting preferences?? 🙋🏻‍♀️

It started with an online shop, a weekend away, ten rolls of wallpaper, and a home that needed more personality.

Every chapter prepared me for the next one. Running my shop taught me business, customer service, photography, marketing, buying, selling, and how to take risks. Then somewhere along the way, decorating my own home became the thing I couldn’t stop thinking about. I’m so glad I listened to that little nudge.

I know many of you have been following along since the early days of building my first business. You have been my online cheerleaders and, for real, thank you for every reaction, every kind message and encouragement along the way ❤️ The internet has some dark corners but this definitely isn’t one of them. And if you are newer here, here is a little of where Beth Powers Design came from. ☺️

Starting a new lake house project in Durham, NH and I’m so excited about this one. It’s for a repeat client, which honestly is always the best because I genuinely miss my clients when a project ends. Designing someone’s home is such a personal process and we spend so much time together along the way. Excited to be working together again!
