Land Acknowledgement
On this Indigenous People's Day, we honor the Ho-Chunk Nation, whose ancestral homeland includes the lands and waters we know today as the Kickapoo Valley Reserve.
Long before the Kickapoo Valley Reserve existed, this landscape was a place of refuge and home to the Ho-Chunk people, whose enduring connections to the land, water, plants, wildlife, and cultural traditions continue to this day.
As we work collectively to preserve, protect and perpetuate the natural and cultural resources of the Kickapoo Valley Reserve, we recognize the importance of honoring the Indigenous peoples who have stewarded these lands since time immemorial. We acknowledge the history, resilience and living culture of the Ho-Chunk Nation and value their continued relationship with this land.
May this day be an opportunity to listen, learn, reflect and deepen our respect for the people and stories that are part of this landscape.
Today and every day, we honor the Ho-Chunk Nation and their enduring connection to the Kickapoo Valley Reserve.
