Back in 1996, PQH-owner Joanne first saw the Australian fabric collection by M&S Textiles, and she was enraptured. Eight years later, Joanne saw the collection again at the International Markets and fell for them all over. So in 2004, when M&S Textiles’ Australian collection was finally available for purchase by quilt shop owners in the US, Joanne brought the first bolts of Australian fabrics into Portage Quilt House, and she’s never looked back! Our collection of aboriginal prints has grown over the years, as has their popularity with our customers. We now have over 200 bolts of Australian fabrics + many shop samples showcasing their indescribable beauty. Our collection is a sight to behold, and we hope you’ll take the opportunity to experience it firsthand.

We offer quilt kits + several other inspirational ideas like bags, totes, rugs, and more.

🌀Hodgepodge Quilt Kit: Hodgepodge pattern by Modernly Morgan + fabric from M&S Textiles. 72” x 84”. Kit includes pattern + fabric for quilt top and binding. $155/kit.

🌀Chatsworth Quilt Kit: Chatsworth pattern by Doug Leko of Antler Quilt Design + fabric from M&S Textiles. 74” x 88”. Kit includes fabric only. $170/kit. Pattern sold separately. We also carry Braided Flying Geese Foundation Paper.

🌀Flower Stalls Quilt Kit: Flower Stalls pattern by Natalie Barnes of Beyond the Reef + fabric from M&S Textiles. 72” x 75”. Kit includes pattern + fabric for quilt top and binding. $125/kit.

Looking for a new project but not ready to commit to an entire quilt? Try a zippered bag!

We love the Maui Glam Bag by Nancy Green of Pink Sand Beach Designs. The pattern is fat quarter-friendly + the zippered bag features a wrist strap, easy to sew zippers, a large outside zipper pocket, and three inside pockets. It’s a fantastic size for travel, cosmetics, purse organization, small sewing projects, and more!

We’ve made a couple of these recently…one featuring the 2026 AMISH fabric and two in strawberry fabrics. (It’s almost strawberry season in the Copper Country!!!)

Introducing our 2026 All Michigan Shop Hop quilt!

We paired PQH-favorite pattern Hanky Panky by Darlene Zimmerman & Rachel Shelburne with the AMISH prints and blenders to make this fat quarter quilt. Kits are available for $107 and include fabric for the quilt top and binding for a 52” x 62” lap quilt + the Hanky Panky pattern. (Tip: we had enough fabric left over to add one extra row, making our sample a bit longer than the pattern. You’ll have enough fabric to do the same!)

We love how our quilt showcases this year’s nautical-themed prints by QT Fabrics! Celebrate the Great Lakes State with the Hanky Panky quilt from PQH! We have a limited number of quilt kits available, so stop by the shop or call us to purchase.

Meet our shop owner, Joanne! Joanne opened PQH in 2002 and has been sharing her love of quilting with the Copper Country for almost 24 years! She loves her dogs, walks with friends, traveling the world, Australian fabrics, quilting (obviously!), and Diet Dr. Pepper.

Joanne is pictured wearing our custom long-sleeved Quilt U.P. shirt. We have both short sleeve and long sleeve t-shirts available for purchase in sizes small through 3XL. These Comfort Colors brand crew neck shirts are made from 100% ring spun cotton and come in the color WASHED DENIM with navy printing. Comfort Colors shirts wash and wear beautifully. Our shirts are printed with water-based inks that create a softened look and feel. Printed locally and made exclusively for Portage Quilt House. Available for purchase in store or on our website. Hello, June! We’re looking forward to another blue sky day in the Keweenaw Peninsula. The sun is shining. Everything is blooming. Spring is finally here! And so is Kim Diehl’s new collection Flower Pot Prints for Henry Glass & Co.

We have 20 bolts of tiny florals in bold, spring hues. Mix and match these red, pink, orange, gold, gray, navy, turquoise, teal, green, plum, and cream prints. We also have fat quarter bundles, 5 inch charm packs, 10 inch charm packs, and 2 1/2 inch strips.
