Most of us have made a habit of turning the TV on before bed, or just for background noise. It’s what we do while we wait for dinner, or while we talk, or while nobody is really doing anything at all.

A fire does the opposite. It gathers people together, warms up the space, and encourages deeper thoughts and real conversation.

Who says a postcard can’t be a work of art?

This postcard is from Sushi Noz, the restaurant where my husband and I had dinner the night we got engaged in 2024. And today I’m giving it a proper home in a Ready Mad Frame from Beth Hill 🤎

Neo Deco is one of the biggest interior design trends of the season. Art Deco geometry, marble, brass and deep saturated color, but softened for a house you actually live in.

The mistake people make is using only hard surfaces and metallics, which ends up looking like a hotel lobby. The rooms getting it right balance the geometry with texture. A handwoven throw over a velvet chair. A raw edge wood bowl next to a lacquered tray.

Mass produced decor gets the shape right and skips the material, so you end up with plastic standing in for marble and thin gold paint standing in for brass. A handmade piece gets the form and the weight right at the same time.

None of this was designed to only look good in 2026. That’s why it does.

A wooden board, a salt cellar, a copper pan, a bar of soap on a dish. These were all designed to work, and looking good came out of getting the shape right. Which is why they looked great in 1970 and they’ll look great in 2050.

You can spot it in a house immediately, and never from the big things. Anybody can buy a sofa. It’s the small stuff, the parts nobody thinks to photograph. What’s by the sink. What the spoons live in. Whether anything has been used enough to show it.

Good taste isn’t a budget. It’s paying attention to the parts that are easy to skip.
