Tenderly Stitched

Tenderly Stitched Tenderly Stitched shares info on traditional and modern quilting to inspire others to explore.

As a Quilter, my goal is to connect women with our quilting legacy and help them learn to use this creative outlet to add beauty to their lives. I demonstrate how to express your voice in a relaxed environment so you can experience how therapeutic stitching is. I will help you tell your own story through needle and thread and ignite your talent. I share skills that can be used in traditional and m

odern quilt designs so you will be able to explore both with ease. At my quilt retreats and workshops I talk through the design elements Quilters use to create unique projects.

My quilting journey began with a heartfelt gift for my sister. Lacking the skills, I was fortunate to find a gifted teacher, Ms. Val, who held my hand stitch by stitch. Now, I'm completing a quilt for her daughter, bringing a beautiful story full circle.

In remembering Dolly Parton, I keep returning—not to the rhinestones, but to the scraps.

Her mother, Avie Lee, pieced a coat from what the family had and connected it to the biblical story of Joseph’s coat of many colors. The coat carried a mother’s love, resourcefulness and faith.

But when Dolly wore it to school, her classmates saw poverty and teased her. Dolly remembered something different: love.

She did not pretend the ridicule did not hurt. Instead, she eventually told the story in her own words and refused to let someone else’s interpretation become its final meaning.

That is a lesson worth carrying forward.

We don’t get to choose all the patches in our lives. Some are beautiful. Some are painful. Some are chosen, and others are handed to us.

Faith does not require us to call every patch good. It allows us to trust that God can still use what we would never have chosen—and that even a painful piece of our story can eventually offer warmth to someone else.

What unexpected patch from your childhood is still part of your story?

And how might you use it to give someone else a little warmth today?

Share your reflection below, or save this Mending Moment™ for a day when you need to remember that no one else gets to decide what the patches in your story mean.

I may be hosting the retreat, but I’m also a quilter. ❤️ I sew beside my Stitchin’ Sistahs because every project teaches me something new too.

Quilting connects us to a rich textile heritage, a welcoming community, and generations of creative women.

✨ Ready to learn to quilt? We’d love to welcome you.

✂️ Every great quilt retreat starts with preparation…

Today I’m cutting the beautiful Moda Holly Jolly Black Santa stocking panels for our 8th Annual Diaspora Christmas in July Quilt Retreat, and I couldn’t be happier!

One of my favorite parts of hosting retreats is personally preparing the projects we’ll create together. These aren’t just stockings—they’re future family traditions.

Over the next few days we’ll laugh, learn, sew, and make memories while creating projects that will be enjoyed for Christmases to come.

I can’t wait to see every Stitchin’ Sistah’s stocking come to life!
