Meet Bakoroba the artisan who made RTH’s collection of Mudcloth, located in Mali. Bakoroba is an expert in traditional dyeing practices, he is committed to his craft, referring to it as his cultural heritage. Creating the mudcloth allows him to provide for his family and reduces unemployment and poverty in his village. Through his local cooperative, artisans receive fair wages and young people and women receive training and sales and production assistance. By purchasing Bakoroba’s mudcloth, you are helping empower people around the world through fair trade. Some new textiles on the way and I honestly can not wait to share them!
MUDCLOTH
Did yall know that some of these colors are made from soy beans! The handmade Malian cotton fabric is first soaked in a bath with leaves and tree branches, then hung in the sun to dye. After a week patterns are painted on the cloth using soy bean milk and mud that is fermented for over a year in clay pots.
