From Don Wright: Update: See listing from HLSR 2021 Announcement, Cook-Off will not be happening this year. We'll be back in 2022! See the following:
Dear WCBBQ Team Owners,
Thank you for your continued support of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. During these uncertain and challenging times, we’re extremely appreciative of your on-going support.
Today, we are announcing the cancellation of the 2021 RODEOHOUSTON competitions, concerts and entertainment, carnival, and other attractions and activities, which were recently rescheduled for April/May, due to the ongoing health situation. The Junior Livestock Show and Horse Show competitions will still be held in March, upholding the Rodeo’s mission of promoting agriculture and supporting Texas youth. These competitions will be held as private events and will follow all state and local health and safety guidelines.
We were optimistic moving many of the attractions to April/May would provide a better opportunity to host the Rodeo, but it has become evident that the current health situation has not improved to the degree necessary to hold our annual event. While this is a heartbreaking decision for everyone involved, we believe this was the right decision, made in the interest of the health and well-being of our community.
In addition, the Downtown Rodeo Parade, Trail Ride activities, the Rodeo Uncorked! Roundup & Best Bites Competition and the World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest are canceled for 2021. The Rodeo Run, sponsored by ConocoPhillips, will be held virtually, with details to be announced once available.
Regarding funds already paid to HLSR for the 2021 WCBBQ Contest, we will be reaching back out to you soon to verify your preference – refund, roll over to 2022 WCBBQ Contest, or donate to the Show’s Education Fund). We appreciate your patience as we prepare for this.
We’re truly grateful for the incredible support you’ve shown the Rodeo (and the WCBBQ Contest). We look forward to welcoming everyone back in 2022, to celebrate the Show’s 90th anniversary.
Please visit rodeohouston.com for the official announcement, and as always, feel free to reach out to us directly if you have any questions.
