Glass casting. I’ve been exploring how these translucent green and blue figures I made a few years ago interact with each other and the light around them. The sprue system is usually just the functional plumbing, the paths cut into the mold to let the molten glass flow in and air escape, meant to be cut off and ground away. I chose to leave it intact for now. It feels like a cage somehow; not a trap, but a boundary she has placed around herself.
The butterfly, a symbol of transformation, feels like a protective presence. They surround her neck as a sign of love and safety. When I placed her on the stand of butterflies, she instantly felt powerful, as if she had finally found a footing of her own to carry her through life.
