New Praisin’ Art: Gourds

My Gourd Walk today! To my very neglected garden. But the good news is that our hot weather seems like summer to my little spinners so they are thriving and my little ball gourds. There are about 100 little gourds that are shaped like Tennessee Spinners but are yellow… probably a mix but I know we will still have a blast with a spinning contest at school!
My shed is full of large gourds and I was needing small ones so this is a good thing!

A couple weeks ago I literally counted 26 Wild Buffalo Gourd patches on my way home from school! (Within a 6 mile stretch.) They love the sandy soil by the side of the road out here in NW Kansas. My ultra favorite gourd shape for my ornaments. ❤️

***Not my Art!****
Oh my goodness I have to share this beautiful house. My friend Barb Dedrickson bought this gourd from me this June at the Missouri Gourd Show and sent me this picture today. She’s completely going to inspire me. This is a dipper gourd I grew last summer (or possibly 2 summers ago) which is called a Zipper gourd because of how I wrapped the gourd when it was growing.

Glenn Burkhalter was the farmer who taught me to do this technique and it was at his gourd garden that some woman said something like, “it looks like a zipper” and thus the name was coined that day!

If you have a dipper in your garden and it’s about the size of your finger and still has a ways to go, just use a shoelace, tie it to the stem then wind it around and back up to tie in place at the top. Then watch! The very next day it will have started to transform. ❤️
