I just want to take a moment to say how incredibly proud I am of my Shawny.
The creative process can look chaotic from the outside—running plotlines in circles, fleshing out characters and dialogue, pacing, processing, editing, and spending endless hours on calls. It takes an extraordinary amount of hard work and persistence to bring anything to fruition in Hollywood.
And Shawn is so incredibly good at what he does. He knows how to tell a story, create characters who feel full and real, and connect plotlines in ways that draw people in.
American Hostage has been years in the making. It began as a podcast created from the office downstairs in our home, with countless hours poured into making it the best it could be. To see it become a television series starring Jon Hamm—and now premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival—is just amazing.
Of course, a project like this is only possible because of the many talented people who believed in it and worked so hard to bring it to life. Congratulations to the entire cast, crew, writers, producers, and creative team behind it.
It’s easy to see a photograph of Shawn and Jon together and think, “Wow, that’s so cool.” But what people don’t see are all the hours, uncertainty, persistence, collaboration, and love behind it.
Shawn, I see you. I am so very proud of you and everything you’ve done to bring this story here.
