Wow, over 30 new faces joined us in the last day!

Welcome to K&N Quilting. We are so glad you're here.

For those just joining us: K&N stands for Kay and Nancy. We are two sisters who love making quilts and sharing our creativity in a way that helps others. This page is where we share the quilts we create for charities here in East Texas. You'll see photos of each quilt, the charity it supports, how to get raffle tickets, and how much each quilt raises once the raffle is complete.

We've also started a series of instructions for those new(ish) to quilting. In addition to making quilts that support causes who give back to our community, we want to pass on some of what we've learned along the way.

We'd love to get to know you. Say hi in the comments, tell us where you're from. If you quilt, what do you love to make?

Thank you for being here and supporting our journey as we give back to our community.

A binding is the last step of a quilt, and it's also the one that takes the most wear.

Some quilters piece a separate binding from scratch. For this technique, we use the backing fabric instead. It's called a rolled binding.

There's no extra fabric to cut or piece. The backing gets trimmed a little longer than the batting, folded over, and rolled onto the front. Each corner gets folded in, rolled down, and pinned before it's stitched into place.

It's a method quilters come back to again and again, especially for baby quilts, charity quilts, and anything that needs a clean, sturdy finish without extra steps.

We put together an 8-step guide showing exactly how it comes together, from the first trim to the last stitch.

Save it for your next binding day.

Every quilt starts somewhere.

For this one, it started with a sketch on paper, fabric pulled together, and the first few squares taking shape.

Kay is working on a quilt for Miranda’s Place in Lufkin. Each year, Miranda’s Place holds a fundraising prom to help support their program, and this quilt is being made for this year’s raffle.

We thought it would be fun to share a look at the process. Before a quilt arrives for the event, there are a lot of steps most people never see. The idea gets drawn out. The fabric is found or purchased and assembled. The squares are made one by one. The pieces start coming together into rows or strips. The rows are joined. And, little by little, it begins to look like the quilt Kay pictured in her mind.

This one is still in progress, but it is already full of thoughtfulness, intention, and care.

We’ll share more pictures and raffle details soon.
