The same things that make an interior feel beautiful; layers, pattern, color, lighting, flowers, collected pieces… these things work outside, too.
Once I stopped thinking ‘outdoor space’ and started thinking ‘outdoor room,’ this space started to feel more warm and welcoming, and like a true extension of our home.
Elements like climbing vines, checkerboard flooring, weathered planters, striped cushions, layered linens, colorful glassware, and flowers from the garden all add dimension and warmth to a space that would otherwise feel cold and utilitarian.
I also stopped shopping for exclusively “outdoor entertaining” items and started looking more for things that were colorful, patterned… things that would bring a cheery vibe and a sense of cheer to the patio for the summer season.
If you could add or change one thing to your outdoor space, what would it be?
