There are so, so many amazing pyrography artists out there. Hippie North immediately comes to mind as THE gold standard for nature and wildlife burns.
But there are so, so many of us, doing so many different styles. Just like there are so many different painters, tattoo artists, smiths, glass blowers, crotcheters, seamstresses/tailors, and so on.
I know of three other pyros, just here in the Huntsville area that I consider excellent artists. And if I were at an art show and saw they had a table as well, it would be nice! It would be no different than if two people who were both digital artists but had different styles were there.
Just because we have the same medium doesn't mean we have the same art. We can and do happily share space. The pyrography community as a whole is so amazing at sharing tips, their time, giving advice, and not being judgemental about each other's work, in a harsh or negative way...overall. There's always someone who's a dick, of course lol.
That being said, the same goes for costs, too. Just because we use the same materials, doesn't mean we charge the same, either. One person may put way more detail into their work, add multiple mediums to the wood, like paint or colored pencil, or have a more difficult style. Stippling, for example, is extremely time consuming, as is any sort of realism or anything with a lot of details and shading. So, we factor in that, too. We're not copies of each other and we're not going to do the same thing that another artist burned that you saw, but for way cheaper.
