Growing up in this setting allowed her to see the simple pleasures of life and appreciate design in the everyday world. Living in a small town had its advantages, however, after high school she knew she wanted to venture out into the world and figure out how she could turn that passion for “design” into a lifelong career. Shelby always found herself more interested in the design and construction of things, yet she also had a passion for teaching. After graduation, an internship, and several years in the furniture retail market, Shelby ultimately landed a job as a senior interior designer at an architectural firm where she spent sixteen years learning the ins and outs of every day interior design and the business of construction. During this time period she was asked to return to SHSU as a Clinical Assistant Professor of interior design. Her desire for being in the real world while also being able to inspire students was finally realized and her passion continues in the university classroom today. Shelby instills a touch of simple elegance in all of her projects, but craves a design challenge and the opportunity to show off her ever-evolving style. No matter what the style she is asked to create, each space she designs feels cozy, eclectic, and unique, but most importantly, yours.
