Old article, but interesting read!

"Adding to the problem: local fishermen often dig up the munitions and turn them into homemade fishing bombs. One explosion can bring in a catch worth $240—more than a month’s income for the average Solomon Islander, according to reporting by the nonprofit news site Honolulu Civil Beat. Farmers burning vegetation to clear land for crops can also detonate hidden munitions."

Every year at least 20 islanders are killed or maimed by the detonation of leftover bombs, artillery shells, or other munitions.

"Archaeologists in Japan have unearthed a massive stash of about 100,000 coins in Maebashi, a city about 60 miles (100 kilometers) northwest of Tokyo. The hoard was found during excavations ahead of the construction of a factory, reported The Asahi Shimbun, a newspaper in Japan. Only 334 of the coins have been examined so far, with the oldest one originating from China and dating to 175 B.C. and the most recent coin dating to A.D. 1265, the newspaper reported."

A hoard of more than 100,000 coins found in Japan might have been buried by warriors centuries ago.

"A hat belonging to Napoleon Bonaparte when he ruled the French empire in the 19th Century has been sold for €1.9m ($2.1m; £1.7m) at auction in Paris.

The bicorne black beaver felt hat was valued between €600,000 and €800,000 (£525,850-£701,131).

The person who bought the hat has not made themselves known.

Historians say the hat was part of his brand. Wearing it sideways made him recognisable in battle. He owned about 120 bicorne hats over the years."

The black bicorne felt hat was a trademark of the French emperor, and was sold above estimates.
