Flash Your Stash!
The bane of every yarn shop’s existence is the ‘I have too much stash already’ line.
This bothers me not because of the implication they aren’t going to buy yarn or fiber, but because it puts a negative spin on what you choose to let into your life to bring you joy.
Often people worry about what will become of their craft items if they pass away. You know what, it’s not the end of the world to leave the things you’ve loved. I’m not talking about hoarder level, I’m talking about realistic stash levels. What happens if it goes to the goodwill? I recently had someone bring in a spinning wheel purchased from a local charity shop that came from us. This shop feeds people in the community. I knew the person who it came from and she was a customer who we cherished. I was so glad her wheel was able to find a new home and start a new person spinning. This goes for stash too!
We fill our homes as we can with things that bring us joy. Whether that’s flowers, teapots, or yarn it brings you joy.
Our job, is to help you use your stash by curating it. Add a skein or a braid. Don’t let it sit stagnant but move it around, add to it, bring color into your life. Let it inspire not weigh you down.
You can spin with no project. You can knit for joy, you can sit and admire your handspun without using it and you can have enough stash to be surprised by something you love and had forgotten about.
Creation isn’t about the finished object creation is about the art of beauty and bringing joy to your life and others. Taking away the pressure of finishing things, or to make your life so streamlined that you don’t have creative energy hanging around creates an environment to be creative.
Purchasing a countdown calendar, buying a sweater quantity of yarn or roving, or even adding a just a mini skein or 2, can bring new life to your old things. Taking the time to arrange it, by project, by dream, by color, or by weight can fill a rainy day that weight you down.
Add to your stash, bring joy to your life and don’t worry about tomorrow. It’ll bring joy to the right person at the end.
Art is creative, & messy, and it’s supposed to be! Take joy. Just check for moths along the way.
