Reclaim may not be the prettiest part of what we do, but we love having a low-waste option. The best part of throwing pottery is even when a piece doesn't work out, it can be reclaimed for another try later!

It's glazing day here in the mud room! Which one will be deep red and which one will have a lovely blue glow after they're fired? It might not be the one you'd expect!

Not every piece ends the way it began!

This started as one of the most perfect hand cups I've ever thrown. It was lovely, round and symmetrical, with excellent proportions. Then, in the trimming process, it broke loose and flipped, getting caught between the wheel and the splash guard. All the gashes and dents are damage it took from being bounced around before the wheel was stopped.

We fired and glazed it anyway. The original glazing idea was for a dull red to shine through from a dark brown (almost black) surface. The hope was to create something that looked like lava about to burst through the crust. That didn't go as planned either.

Now I have a reminder of just how off-plan things can get and still wind up in a positive way. Good thing some of us around here are horror fans!
