Good design doesn’t stop at the drawing. It shows up on site. 📐

Commercial interior design isn’t all desk work! It’s where plans meet progress, products meet purpose, and carefully considered details start becoming real spaces.

Our IDO team gets hands-on throughout construction, helping ensure the design vision translates from the drawings to the finished environment. Because understanding how a space comes together is just as important as imagining what it could be.

New builds or renovations: great design takes collaboration, problem-solving, and being present when the details matter most. The drawings are the beginning. The impact happens in the space.

Can office design actually help people focus? 🧠 Why yes. Yes it can.

In a recent study, Corgan and the University of Arkansas examined 20 adults with inattentive-type ADHD, using brain activity monitoring and other measures to explore how lighting, visual distractions, and movement affect attention.

Featured in interiors+sources, the findings offer practical insights into how thoughtful design can support focus, well-being, and different working styles. Because better design isn't just about how a space looks. It's about how people experience it.

TBT to January, when we decided the best way to kick off 2026 was to make our owners question what exactly their employees were doing.

During a team meeting, we introduced ANYTHING BUT A CUP and proceeded to turn hydration into a full-blown vessel crisis.

Pringles can. Baseball helmet. Child's medicine syringe. Measuring cup. Medicine bottle. Ice molds. Paint can. Fishbowl. And, because apparently regular containers were simply not cutting it, a medieval helmet. ⚔️

2026 started with a little laughter, a lot of questionable drinkware, and a reminder that sometimes the best team meetings come with absolutely no explanation whatsoever.

Now it’s your turn: If you had to drink your next beverage out of ANYTHING but a cup, what are you choosing? Drop your most ridiculous idea in the comments. 👇

A few members of the IDO team recently had the opportunity to tour Business Furniture + Co’s new headquarters, exploring a range of collaborative zones, meeting spaces, conference rooms, training rooms, and open office settings.

There was plenty of inspiration to take in, from the sculptural LightArt Somari Collection and Coalesse Bob Lounge Chair to Artewalls wallcoverings and Steelcase Flex Personal Spaces.

A great look at how thoughtful products, materials, and planning come together to create spaces that support the way people work today. We left inspired and ready to bring a few new ideas to our next furniture projects. ✨ Samantha Henrickson Maddie Hittle Lee Boyland Brittany Rissler

Remember when we said green was having a moment? Turns out, it has range. 🌿

Our latest blog takes a closer look at Terra Forma, a design direction where the bold, sculptural language of meets the warmth and imperfection of nature.

Think raw concrete and strong geometry paired with reclaimed wood, earthy textures, moody greens, natural light, and materials that aren't afraid to show a little character. It’s hard lines, soft landings. And honestly? We’re into it.

Give our latest blog a look and see how Brutalism is getting a softer, more grounded side. 👉 https://bit.ly/4AX1Mb4

A green door, a finished home, and a pretty incredible full-circle moment. 💚

This past May, our Lipstick & Lumber team of IDO associates and brand partners joined
Greater Indy Habitat for Humanity13th Annual Women Build, helping frame and build Lisa’s future home alongside an incredible group of skilled women from across our community.

IDO joined Lisa, her family, and fellow Women Build volunteers to dedicate the completed home and walk through the finished build. Seeing the walls we helped raise become a place Lisa and her family will call home was a meaningful reminder of why
we build.

And that green door? It’s more than a front door. It’s a daily welcome home and a little reminder of the hands, hearts, and hard work that helped make it happen. We’ll proudly wear those green build shirts for a long time to remember this one. 🛠️

Thank you to our dedicated Lipsticks, Bob Guindon, and our generous supporters who helped make the 13th year of Women Build one to remember. We came to build a house and left with a whole lot more. ❤️

🍪 THE IDO OREO CHALLENGE™ HAS RETURNED. And this time, we’re asking an important question: Can an Oreo taste like chicken & waffles? Apparently… yes. Kind of.

OREO released three new flavors last month and put them out into the world for people to taste, debate, and ultimately decide their fate. Naturally, IDO accepted the assignment.

Chicken & Waffles was easily the wild card of the three. The consensus? Surprisingly maple-forward, with a faint chicken aftertaste. Not chicken-forward. Not completely unhinged. Just… chicken-adjacent.

And honestly, we respect the commitment to the concept.

Interior design is a little like that. Sometimes the most interesting results come from putting together things you wouldn't immediately expect to work. You experiment. You test. You get opinions. And occasionally, you end up with Chicken & Waffles Oreos.

Would we eat them again? That remains under review.

The IDO Oreo Challenge™: where curiosity meets questionable snack decisions. Stay tuned for the rest of the lineup.

October 1st means we’re officially kicking off Q4, and what better way to welcome a new quarter than by celebrating some pretty incredible IDO milestones! We’re celebrating four members of our IDO family and the years they’ve helped make IDO what it is today!

Congratulations to co-owner and COO Lee Boyland on 18 years with IDO, and Lead Design Associates Melanie Sipe Wilhelm on 22 years, Samantha Henrickson and Charissa Fish Bellinger on 4 years each!

From Lee’s leadership and operational genius, to Melanie’s 22 years of experience and memories, Samantha’s talent, mentorship, and the many ways she helps those around her grow, and Charissa’s continued growth as a design lead and teammate, each of you brings something uniquely your own to IDO.

Thank you for the talent, dedication, collaboration, and heart you bring to IDO. The people behind the work are what make this team special, and we’re grateful to celebrate each of you and the mark you continue to make.
