Behind every successful project is a team built on trust.

For Brett Quandt and Lisa Gomperts, some of the biggest lessons of the 2010s came back to the strength of those relationships with Owners, design partners, and construction teams alike.

That trust not only helps complex projects succeed, but also creates the foundation for long-term partnerships and a shared understanding that, ultimately, it’s the client’s project.

In this episode of Foundations + Futures, Brett and Lisa reflect on the projects, partnerships, and lessons that helped shape Schmidt Associates through the 2010s and continue to influence how we work today.

A month ago, we asked one simple question: What matters most?

Throughout our 50th Anniversary celebrations, clients, partners, employees, alumni, and friends answered that question on individual puzzle pieces. Some added their pieces during the celebrations, and afterward, our team put the rest together.

Well...almost.

One piece is missing.

We've looked. We've asked. We've searched. It hasn't turned up.

Maybe someone accidentally took home a little piece of Schmidt Associates. Or maybe it's a pretty fitting reminder that our story isn't finished yet.

There are still relationships to build, communities to strengthen, problems to solve, and new pieces of our story waiting to be written.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of our first 50 years! Here's to the next piece.

The lights are on. The locker room is ready. Football is back. 🏈

This is what game day looks like at Speedway.

Room to rehearse. Space to grow. Music ready to be made.

Washington Township Schools’ larger transformation of North Central High School includes renovated music spaces designed to give students and educators more room to work.

The new spaces support every part of the program, from full-band rehearsals to small-group coaching and individual practice. Improved acoustics, added space, and layouts shaped around how musicians work give North Central’s performing arts program a home that reflects its ambition.

It is a meaningful investment in the students, educators, and music programs that bring these spaces to life.

Curiosity. Care. Community. Three words that define 21+ years of Anna Marie Burrell's work, and the story she's helped write at Schmidt Associates.

As principal and studio leader, Anna Marie is known for asking the right questions, listening closely, and designing schools that feel unmistakably like the communities they serve.

"Anna Marie has been a driving force behind our firm's success in acquiring and delivering K-12 projects, including some of the largest and most complex work we've ever done," said Kyle Miller, principal and longtime collaborator. "She has earned the respect and admiration of our Owners, our staff, and colleagues across the industry. Simply put, people love working with Anna."

As we celebrate our 50th anniversary, we're honoring the people who've shaped who we are, and Anna Marie is no exception.

Congratulations to Westfield Washington Schools on the opening of their new Transportation Center!

As one of Indiana’s fastest-growing school districts, WWS continues to make thoughtful investments that support the growing community. The new facility gives the transportation team more room to maintain the district’s fleet and train staff while helping support the hundreds of routes that safely connect students with their schools each day.

We’re proud to have partnered with WWS in creating a facility that meets the district’s needs today with room to grow for the future.

Congratulations to the entire WWS team on this exciting milestone!

As this year’s Indiana State Fair (Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center) enters its final stretch, it feels like the perfect time to revisit the very first episode of Luminate.

Cindy Hoye, then-executive director of the Indiana State Fair Commission, joined Sarah Hempstead to talk about what makes the fair so meaningful. They explored the traditions people return to, the new experiences that keep it evolving and the blend of urban and rural communities that come together each summer.

Our next Archibabble 101 lesson is all about windows. 🪟

There's more architectural jargon hiding in your windows than you might think. In this episode, we're learning about fenestration, mullions, and muntins.

Special guest Joseph Jarzen, Schmidt Associates' client liaison, joins the Steves to break down the language behind the openings that bring light, views, and character into a building.

After 50 years of design, our architectural vocabulary is still growing. Class is in session.

Big changes are taking shape at the School Town of Speedway.

Rather than continuing to work around limited gym space and stadium infrastructure dating to 1968, Speedway chose to invest in a better experience for students, athletes, staff and fans.

The transformed campus adds three multi-sport courts, a new end zone building, improved locker and training spaces, a synthetic turf field, an eight-lane track, new grandstands, a press box, scoreboards and enhanced lighting.

Every improvement supports Speedway’s larger goal: creating more opportunities for students to learn, compete and grow while building an athletics campus the community can be proud of.

Congratulations to the School Town of Speedway! We cannot wait to see the new field come alive under the Friday night lights!
