For Heydi, this isn't just a keyboard. It's another tool helping open the door to a future once difficult to imagine.

Heydi is blind and lives in El Salvador. Now, with support from Daniel Carnine and a growing circle of people connected through People Helping People Network, she has assistive technology, a new computer — and an opportunity to attend college.

Daniel believes the goal isn't simply to make life a little easier. It's to give people the resources and opportunities to go as far as their abilities and determination can take them.

And for Heydi, college may be only the beginning.

Watching this video of the Miracle Mile Parade on Madison Avenue brings back a flood of wonderful memories. ❤️🇺🇸

For more than 80 years, Cardwell Home Center has been part of the Madison Avenue story, and I’ve been blessed to spend much of my life watching this community grow and change. But videos like this remind me of something that has never changed—the importance of people, relationships, family, and community.

I remember the excitement of the Miracle Mile Parade—the sidewalks filled with families, children waving, marching bands playing, local businesses participating, and neighbors coming together simply to celebrate their community. There was a genuine sense of pride and belonging along Madison Avenue.

Those were special days, and they created memories that have lasted a lifetime.

Buildings change. Businesses come and go. Generations grow older. But the spirit of a community lives on through the stories we share and the memories we pass along.

As we celebrate America’s 250th Birthday, perhaps looking back can also inspire us to look forward—to bring people together again, strengthen our neighborhoods, support our local businesses, and create new memories for our children and grandchildren.

I’m grateful for the memories, grateful for the people who helped build the Miracle Mile, and especially grateful that Cardwell Home Center has been blessed to call Madison Avenue home since 1945.

Here’s to remembering where we came from, celebrating where we are, and believing the best chapters of our community’s story are still ahead! 🇺🇸❤️

Jeff Cardwell and his team at Cardwell Do-it Best Home Center stepped up to support families in Laurel, Indiana, after a devastating flood hit the community.

Through his non-profit, the team delivered more than $100,000 in supplies and spent time with families who lost nearly everything.

“There’s a lot of damage throughout our entire state,” Cardwell said. “I just encourage everybody to try to do a little something in their community to help our fellow Americans.”

The impact of Do it Best members goes beyond their store walls. Their independence, backed by the strength of the co-op, empowers them to serve communities in need.
