Can’t imagine where I’d be if I didn’t decide to just start.

The evolution of this business, and branching off to create THE DESIGN FIELD and The Design Anthology alongside Sunday Morning Interiors CA | Joannah Harbeck, has been a wild dream.

When I first started, I knew one thing: I wanted something of my own. But for a while, I was scared to take the leap. Something in me (I like to call it delusion) knew there was an exciting path on the horizon, and I’m so grateful I listened to that intuition.

I definitely didn’t have it all figured out then, and I still don’t. But I think that’s kind of the point.

Start now and perfect later has become the mantra. ✨

WELL FOUND, EP. 01: Starting this series with ceramics, because sometimes it’s the smaller pieces that make a room feel the most collected.

These are four pieces that caught my eye this week. A little sculptural, a little unexpected, and all pieces I’d happily use in my own projects or home.

As July comes to a close, this little reminder felt fitting.

It’s so easy to get caught up in what’s next that we forget to appreciate what’s happening right now.

This month has been full of beautiful projects, incredible clients, and so much momentum for Mae Proper. I’m feeling incredibly grateful for this season and excited for everything August has in store.

Here’s to creating homes and memories that we’ll look back on for years to come. 🤍

In a world of cookie cutter homes, I’m craving spaces with soul.

Homes that feel collected instead of copied. Homes where every decision is intentional. Thoughtful architecture. Beautiful millwork. Layered textures. Natural materials. Character that can’t be found in a floor plan pulled off a shelf.

Not because every home needs to be grand, but because every home deserves to feel personal.

The beauty isn’t in how expensive a home is. It’s in the details that make it unmistakably yours.

It’s not often you get the opportunity to design a basement with no limits and clients who trust the process every step of the way.

This project has become one of my favorites to date. Watching it evolve from an idea on paper into a space that feels both beautiful and deeply lived in has been one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.

Moments from June that have filled my cup. ☀️

June has been filled with evenings that have lasted a little longer, conversations that have been a little deeper, and days spent doing work I genuinely love.

Grateful for a month full of meaningful work and moments worth remembering.

Testing out my floristry skills for our Hillcrest photoshoot and let’s just say there were a few moments where I questioned whether I should’ve called a professional. 😅 But honestly? The struggle was half the fun!

Safe to say I’ll be sticking to interior design… for now😆

Silly of me to think my background in construction wasn’t an asset to my interior design business.

While there have certainly been challenges in learning the business side of design, I’ve realized there have been just as many advantages from bringing my construction experience with me. Looking back, it’s shaped the way I approach every project in ways I never expected.

If you’re transitioning into a new career, don’t overlook what your previous experience has taught you. Whether it’s in a related field or something completely different, chances are you’re bringing valuable skills to the table.

For me, these are five ways my background in construction has made me a stronger interior designer!
