This is the company I get many of my wreath boards from. I love using them and it breaks my heart I may lose the chance.
Please read their post and share it. We never know who it might reach that could have a solution!!
To Our American Wreathing Family — Please Read This ❤️🇺🇸 (long read but very important)
I want to take a moment to share what has been happening behind the scenes at Unique in the Creek and explain why our wreath boards have become so difficult to get in the USA.
I know not everyone follows the news or understands tariffs, so I’m going to explain this as simply as I can.
First and foremost, we have NOT chosen to stop supplying our American customers. Quite the opposite. We have been fighting with everything we have to find a solution.
➡️SO WHAT HAPPENED?
The trade situation between Canada and the United States has changed dramatically.
Our wreath boards are proudly manufactured in Canada, and we are now facing approximately 63% in tariffs and duties when shipping them into the USA.
➡️What does that mean?
A tariff is an extra tax collected by the U.S. government when certain products enter the country.
Here’s a simple example:
If we ship $1,000 worth of wreath boards across the border, an additional 63% means approximately $630 in tariffs and duties, bringing that cost to $1,630 before shipping and other expenses.
That extra $630 does NOT go into Unique in the Creek’s pocket. It goes to the U.S. government.
The importer is responsible for paying those charges. Whether we absorb them, our wholesaler absorbs them, or they are added to the selling price, someone has to pay.
Unfortunately, that means our American customers could end up paying considerably more for the exact same boards they’ve always purchased.
And that breaks my heart.
➡️HAVE WE TRIED TO FIX THIS?
Oh my goodness, have we EVER!
We have spent countless hours working with customs brokers, requesting official rulings from U.S. Customs, exploring different shipping arrangements, considering American warehouses, and even investigating manufacturing in the USA.
We have gone over the numbers again and again, trying to find a way to make this work.
We own the expensive specialized moulds used to manufacture our patented boards here in Canada. Moving manufacturing isn’t as simple as moving equipment across the border. It would require a tremendous investment.
Believe me, if there were an easy solution, we would have found it by now.
➡️WHAT HAS THIS DONE TO OUR BUSINESS? 💔
This is the hardest part for me to share.
Dave and I spent years building Unique in the Creek from an idea into a multimillion-dollar business.
At one point, we employed MANY full-time people. We supported Canadian manufacturing, supplied wonderful American wholesalers, and helped thousands of people discover the joy of wreath making.
We were so proud of what we had built.
Today, our business looks very different.
We have had to let wonderful employees go, drastically reduce expenses, and make decisions we never imagined having to make.
We went from growing a multimillion-dollar business to fighting every single day just to keep it alive.
There have been tears, sleepless nights, and moments when we honestly wondered whether we were going to lose everything we worked so hard to build.
We aren’t a giant corporation with endless resources. We are a husband-and-wife team who took a chance on a dream and poured our hearts into it.
And watching that dream being threatened by circumstances beyond our control has been devastating.
But please know this.
WE ARE NOT GIVING UP. ❤️
➡️WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR OUR CUSTOMERS?
🇨🇦 CANADIAN CUSTOMERS: We are still here! Our Canadian business continues to operate, with wreath boards, beautiful supplies, new kits, and tutorials available.
🇺🇸 AMERICAN CUSTOMERS: Our wonderful wholesaler Craft Outlet continues to carry UITC boards while supplies last. Unfortunately, once that inventory is gone, we cannot promise when more will be available.
⭐️We also have a limited number of complete DIY wreath kits remaining on our USA website at drastically reduced prices. Once they’re gone, we cannot currently replace them.@
Visit uniqueinthecreek.com to see what’s still available. Tutorials for our kits are also on our website.
For those living close to the Canadian border, purchasing boards in Canada and bringing them home is what many are doing.
➡️ONE MORE THING I NEED TO SAY
I have seen some hurtful comments from people who seem to find joy in watching our business struggle.
I just want to remind everyone that behind every small business are real people, real families, and employees whose livelihoods depend on that business.
You don’t have to love me(Laurie)or agree with everything I do, but nobody should celebrate the loss of jobs or another person’s hardship.
We have always tried to build a community based on kindness, creativity, and helping others. That is what we will continue to stand for.
FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS ❤️
Our American customers helped make Unique in the Creek what it became, and we will NEVER forget that.
Your messages, your encouragement, your beautiful wreath creations, and the friendships we have made over the years mean more than you could possibly know.
Unique in the Creek has never been just about selling plastic wreath boards. It’s about people, friendships, creativity, and bringing a little happiness into someone’s day.
Dave and I don’t know exactly what the future holds, but I promise you we are doing everything in our power to keep this little business alive.
We haven’t given up on our American wreathing family, and we hope you won’t give up on us.
➡️I HAVE ONE SMALL FAVOUR TO ASK.
If you have ever enjoyed one of our tutorials, made a wreath on our boards, or simply believe in supporting small businesses, PLEASE SHARE OUR STORY.
You never know who might see it. Maybe a manufacturer, an investor, a business owner, or someone who can help us find a way forward.
Sometimes all it takes is the right person seeing the right message.
Thank you for standing by us through one of the most difficult chapters of our lives.
With all our love and gratitude,
Laurie & Dave ❤️
