A decade in the making, the Shanghai Grand Opera House by Snøhetta opens today. Developed in collaboration with ECADI, Theatre Projects, and Nagata Acoustics, the building is guided by three ideas: movement, belonging, and experience.
The architectural centerpiece is a dramatic fan-shaped roof inspired by traditional Chinese folding fans and the fluidity of dance - a helical structure that doubles as a public promenade, offering panoramic views above the building and integrating it into the surrounding park and urban fabric. Inside, three state-of-the-art auditoriums seat between 1,000 and 2,000 guests, engineered for everything from classical opera to avant-garde productions. Warm oak interiors and precision-tuned acoustics by Nagata Acoustics anchor the performance experience, while galleries, rehearsal spaces, libraries, and cinemas extend the building’s life well beyond performance nights.

The Cathedral That Was Designed Upside Down.
Before computers or calculators, Antoni Gaudi had to figure out how to build a cathedral filled with branching columns, tilted supports, and complex curves.
His solution was extraordinary: he hung strings from the ceiling, attached weighted bags to represent the loads of the building, and let gravity find the shape for him.
The hanging strings naturally settled into curves that worked entirely in tension. Flip those curves upside down, and they became arches working in compression.
In other words, part of the Sagrada Família was designed by building its structure upside down first.

Frida Kahlo was a famous Mexican artist born in 1907 in Mexico City. She is best known for her colorful self-portraits that showed her emotions, pain, identity, and Mexican culture. Kahlo experienced serious health problems throughout her life, especially after a bus accident when she was 18. During her recovery, she began painting more seriously. Her unique style and personal artwork made her one of the most recognized artists in the world. She died in 1954 at the age of 47.

Brand Boutique Hotel
The renovation of this 19,500-square-foot, four-story historic boutique hotel in downtown Glendale reimagines the property through a contemporary design lens while celebrating its architectural heritage. The project introduces a new 4,500-square-foot mezzanine level between the first and second floors, creating new lobby and reception spaces, restaurants, a bar, a banquet hall, and supporting office areas.
The design draws inspiration from the building’s early modern and mid-century character, reinterpreting its clean lines, proportions, and material palette with contemporary detailing and craftsmanship. Architecture, interiors, and custom furnishings work together to create a refined hospitality experience that respects the historic fabric while introducing modern, thoughtfully integrated interventions.

SCRAMBLERS CAFÉ-NORCO, CA
Another Scramblers Café renovation, a contemporary breakfast and lunch diner in the heart of Norco, Califomia. The restaurant’s design concept is inspired by the California ranch lifestyle, featuring rustic colors and finishes, along with large mural artwork that forms a collage of local marquee and indigenous ranch-style omaments. The cafe’s interior offers a minimalist interpretation of modern yet simple forms, highlighting organic, authentic materials and aesthetics. With clean, simple lines, the design creates a warm, cozy atmosphere that fosters both intimacy and a sophisticated dining expenence.

TASMANIA RESIDENCE
A complete remodel and addition to an existing 2,400 sq. ft. two-story custom residence
in the prestigious Laguna Beach/Dana Point area of Southern California. This unique property offers panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and the castal valleys of Dana Point. The interior and exterior design pays homage to the surrounding areas, reflecting the Asian Wabi-Sabi philosophy and design theme by blending diverse elements to create harmony throughout the interior and exterior spaces. This harmonious flow encourages a relaxed lifestyle, making the residence a perfect blend of modern living with sophistication and nature, embracing Southern California’s indoor-outdoor lifestyle. in
