Learning to paint leaves. Up stroke. Lift. Turn. Up. Lift. Turn. Wet brush with ink (or paint). Press down. Pull up. Lift slightly. Turn or twist as you’re raising the tip up and off the page.
It didn’t come naturally. It seemed foreign to me. I tried different brushes. So I tried and tried and tried. Now I can say, “I think I got it!” It’s a rhythm - up, lift, turn.
Try it! I’ve only watched then tried, move your hand quickly and not be afraid of the outcome. To learn water color, you have to give yourself permission to play, make a mess, and have no outcome but a splash of color on paper.
