Do not EVER spray WD40, use grease, candle wax and yes I have even seen butter on the tracks of your sliding glass doors!

The internet (as well as some repairman) will tell you a lot of misinformation. The rollers in your patio sliding doors have SEALED bearings (much like a skateboard or roller skate wheel). So there is NO WAY to get lubrication into the rollers.

Placing ANY type of lubrication of your tracks will not only attract dirt and grime, but your rollers will no longer roll anymore, they will 'slide' on the bead of your track. In turn, will end up damaging the bead of your track. Then will you not only have to replace the rollers, you will also have to do a track repair or restoration! Which will cost you more money!

The ONLY steps you need to take is to use a wire brush and vacuum your track afterwards. You can use a 'light' degreaser afterwards. But make sure the track is completely dry before rolling the sliders over it. You may use a silicon spray at THE TOP track of the slider, only because there are no moving parts, and it will keep the felt of the slider nice and fresh!
