How it Started...

This past January, we finally were able to realize the dream of moving into our first antique booth at The Queen of Hearts in Alpharetta, GA. This was a exciting upgrade from our eBay business that I had been running since 2004. From eBay, we grew into selling across a few platforms, including Etsy, Mercari, Poshmark, FaceBook Marketplace, LetGo, etc. and have sold items across almost all categories (no cars yet!).

Throughout the selling journey I’ve learned that finding a robust and flexible inventory system is extremely helpful. Some of these platforms are notorious for causing issues with your listings that can take hours to go back and fix.

Moving into the booth was a new type of selling that was going to open our options to reach customers in so many ways, while at the same time opening up additional business challenges. Some I was made aware of to watch out for through our great new dealer training, and some I started to pick up one as we jumped right into the business (and some I’m still learning just 6 months into the business!).

It became very obvious to me that I would need to find a great way to track my inventory asap. Thus began my research looking for a robust system that would fit my needs, not only for the new booth, but could cover our other channels as well. Even though my friends have named me “the queen of research” this super power did not result in finding an affordable, robust, and flexible solution! Quite surprising to me, there are systems out there for the store, but not for the individual dealer like myself!

So, what did I do? I leveraged my background in IT* and decided to build a system that would fit my needs plus some. One that would not lock me into one way of doing things. A system that would help this lazy person make sure I track my inventory by not making it complicated or time consuming, while at the same time offering the advantage of going deep into analyzing my inventory. A system that is flexible and customizable to the user, while covering all the parts that you need to and/or want to track!

The inventory system I created is stored in the cloud, meaning it does not reside on your phone or computer which can lose its hard drive. It also means that photos you store on there are not buried on your phone among all the other photos of your kids, dogs, cats, etc. (am I the only one with that problem?).
