This is a 13” long section of the 21 foot walnut trunk I recently purchased. It is 20” in diameter. The center or “pith” must be removed to avoid cracking. This piece will yield 2 bowls approximately 11-12” in diameter. These blanks will then go to the bandsaw to be cut along the round line. Then a sealant will be applied to the end grain only and then off to storage for drying. The total trunk will yield about 40 bowls. Some will be cut into vase blanks measuring 8x8x12.
