I'm Kelsey Pike, a papermaker, printmaker, and art teacher in Kansas City, Missouri. Through my business, Sustainable Paper+Craft, I create handmade paper, paper goods and custom rubber stamps. I have been in love with the obscure and tedious art form of hand papermaking since I first tried it in art school, at the Kansas City Art Institute, in 2009. Turning things like rags and raw plant fibers into paper is a kind of magic! I love the sound of the water, the repetitive motions, the solitude – they put me in a meditative space. My favorite part is peeling the dried sheets and examining them – such a sense of accomplishment. Good craft is important to me and I am continuously studying, practicing and learning to make the best paper. I hope that me paper inspires others to make beautiful things with it.

Monthly paper parcel for August 2026 From intern Lucas Nguyen: This parcel was inspired from my practice as a quilter and natural dyer. I often have a lot of leftover fabric scraps and this process of turning them into paper allows the material to gain new life. In my quilting practice I am mostly improvisational, so I wanted that to be echoed through the paper. In addition, both the quilt and paper mirror each other in ways of playing with transparency, color palette, and conversations of domesticity. These papers are made from naturally dyed fabric scraps from making the quilt on the reverse, titled “Blue & Yellow.”

Monthly paper parcel for September 2026 From intern Abigail Cruz: Inspired by a basket woven from raw kozo fiber, this collection explores the transformation of plant fiber from its natural, unrefined state into paper. The materials retain the subtle textures, variations, and irregularities of the fibers from which they are made. Together, the papers reflect the tension between the softness and delicacy of fiber and its ability to become a strong, structured material.
