I'm Kelsey Pike, a papermaker, printmaker, and art teacher in Kansas City, Missouri. Through my business, Sustainable Paper+Craft, I create handmade paper, paper goods and custom rubber stamps. I have been in love with the obscure and tedious art form of hand papermaking since I first tried it in art school, at the Kansas City Art Institute, in 2009. nto paper is a kind of magic! I love the sound of the water, the repetitive motions, the solitude – they put me in a meditative space. My favorite part is peeling the dried sheets and examining them – such a sense of accomplishment. Good craft is important to me and I am continuously studying, practicing and learning to make the best paper. I hope that me paper inspires others to make beautiful things with it.

The next Odds & Ends sale is coming up!
Friday, June 26th at 4pm central on Instagram stories (Email preview for email newsletter subscribers will go out 1 week early, on Friday June 19th)

What’s an Odds & Ends sale? These sales include bundles of handmade paper sheets that are leftovers from custom orders, extras from recent parcels (this sale includes April, May and June collections) or standard papers that are perfect except for being too heavy or too light for the type standard. This sale will also include some bundles that weren’t snatched in the last sale at an extra discounted rate. This is a great way to get fun colors and sizes of paper to use for your special projects!

Just finished a very special, giant order of our Wave paper! 150 sheets of 11x14, to be used for a wedding.
This paper is created with three layers- the sandy buff base sheet, the half dipped celadon blue, and a thin sheet of natural white that’s altered with water drops. This paper is a labor intensive and requires 2 people - apprentice Moll and I made them over 3 days.

It’s a beautiful sunny day in studio! This time of year the sun coming in the skylight reflects off the surface of the vat and dances on the ceiling. It’s one of my favorite little things about this space.

Walkthrough of the February Monthly Paper Parcel
This palette is inspired by my favorite cold-weather clothes. I noticed the colors one afternoon when they were piled together- worn blues and deep greens softened by season of use, with some new, poppy brights. I wanted to translate that balance into paper, and matching these colors was a challenge and a delight. All papers are made with my Mixed-Media blend, except Speckled Beanie, which uses an EcoSketch blend with added tissue paper confetti. Paper names like Speckled beanie, Canvas snow pants and Green sweater.
