Well guys, since bugging outta here since my last post in JULY (how has it been that long?!) I did a thing. I went back to school. I have a nursing degree that I got 20 years ago (most people don’t know that about me.) And I’m back in the saddle working towards an eventual advanced degree in nursing. How does it feel to over 40 and a full-time student again? In a word? EXHAUSTING. It has been a struggle to juggle everything. And my instagram was among the first thing to go. But, I still love white walls and pretty things. Maybe I’ll pop back in here a couple times before Christmas...maybe I want. But I’m still here plugging along.

I give you THE hardest room in my house to photograph. The powder bathroom. It’s small (but big enough) and tucked around a corner...pretty much perfect for this type, ahem, of room. But virtually impossible to photograph well. You’ll just have to take my word for it. It’s really cute. ESPECIALLY since we recently eradicated the cracked and stained seashell sink that used to live here.

So...any tips for photographing an impossible space?!

I choose to not keep a rug in the dining room...because we heavily USE our dining room. And I do NOT want to have to babysit. I love our dirt colored floors that hide messes...sometimes too well. What about you? Are you pro or con dining room rug?

One of the very first things I did when we moved into our current home two years ago was to install this floral wallpaper mural. (Aside: How has it been two years?! Yet...how has it only been two years?!) It’s important to me to put a stamp of me immediately when I move into a new place. Silly maybe, but this mural is what made my house start feeling like home. What makes your new house feel like home?

Hellllo Monday. Enjoying this entryway order as the rest of the house is KABOOOOM! I’m working on refreshing the master bathroom and my attentions have been diverted. I’m counting on my kids to spruce things up everywhere else...in the most mediocre of ways. 😉

I am having some SERIOUS day confusion. I keep thinking it’s Friday...then I remind myself it’s Wednesday...then remember it’s actually THURSDAY. Sheesh. I’m thinking about pretending I’m an infant and taking a morning nap. If only.
Are you a napper?...if so, are you a sofa napper, or do you go all in on a bed?!

When you’ve got a client willing to let you paint her walls black, you paint her walls black! Dark walls don’t necessarily equal moody and somber. When coupled with loads of natural light, vibrant pops of color, and crisp white linens, it can add up to a sophisticated bedroom that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Dark on dark on pretty is always a winning combination!

When it came time to decorate above my daughter’s dresser...I had already shot my wad on all of the other elements in the room. So...my art budget was teeny tiny. I had a huge box full of bright paper flowers that I’d used as a photo backdrop for a friend’s going away party. (Still sad you’re gone 😢) But, the color and texture was really not what I was going for. I figured I had nothing to lose...so I spray painted those suckers!! I literally just stapled them around the frame (that I’ve had for years.) The most expensive part of the whole wall was the quote that I had printed on large card stock. But even that was less than $5.00. I’m not saying I’m never going to change this up...but I love how it came together. You don’t have to spend a ton of $$$ to get a beautiful result!!

I love making the ceiling in a room just as important as the walls. In the case of my youngest daughters’ shared room, I made it THE most important aspect. We won’t dwell on the fact that my subpar wallpaper application skills were no match for the rough textured ceiling treatment that was so common when our house was built in the late 80’s...it looks great in pictures. And also in person...if you squint a bit when you look up. Regardless...I still love the effect!

True Confession #1: THIS is not how my bedroom currently looks. The bed is NOT made. The nightstand is NOT cleaned off. And the “water bottle” that is not pictured on the nightstand is NOT filled with anything as uncaffeinated as water. (It really should be renamed a “Coke Zero Holder”...at least in this Coke Zero loving household.)
Confession #2: I don’t like weekends and Monday mornings are typically all about resetting from the weekend. So...that’s what I’m really doing right now. I’m on-boarding caffeine and putting things back to rights. Hopefully...a few minutes from now, this picture will no longer be fraudulent. 😉

I feel like I am absolutely LIMPING into this 5th of July...anyone else with me?! Our poor Sasha-dog is most definitely NOT a big fan of fireworks and hasn’t ventured out from under the couch since they started popping off yesterday midday. I’m wanting to take a page from her book and just stay in bed for the day. But...fun awaits! (Not to mention sooooooo much caffeine!!)

It is a strange sight this summer to look at my kitchen shelves and see all of these bowls. I’m realizing that my four kids’ go-to meals are all “bowl-food.” Cereal, ramen, yogurt, popcorn, watermelon. But mostly cereal. Seriously...so much cereal is being consumed! I had to document this rare moment in time when most of my bowls were actually clean on the shelves rather than in the sink or dishwasher or being clutched by a teenaged hand! Anyone else tearing through the bowls?!
