Today we had the opportunity to spend the day at the Nashwauk Keewatin school talking to around 300 kids about fire prevention and staying safe in an emergency. This year’s prevention theme talked about charging safety and the importance of charging devices properly.
Here are some charging safety tips:
-Always charge your devices on a flat hard surface. This allows the battery to stay cool while charging and helps prevent the battery from overheating.
- Unplug your device after it’s done charging
- Stop using your device if it feels very hot, starts to swell, smells strange, leaks, smokes, or makes popping or hissing sounds.
- Always use recommended cords to charge your device.
- Always charge batteries for tools and rides outside and never near a door way.
- When on a plane, keep devices where you can see them while charging. Do not charge e-cigarettes or vapes on the plane. Tell a flight attendant if you notice a problem with your device.
We would like to thank the Nashwauk Fire Department and North Memorial Ambulance for joining us today.
