It's not every day that we get to renovate an entire mid-century time capsule house so we were beyond excited when we did our first walk through of our clients' future fixer upper! We saw right past all the groovy wallpaper and worn carpeting and we just KNEW we'd be able to create a home our clients would love AND keep some of the home's funky soul 🤩

We also kinda sorta fell in love with these 1960s towel rings and wouldn't let them take a dive into the dumpster during demo time. We wanted to make sure that our design plans nodded back to the home's history and original style, so we figured out a way to turn these towel rings into something equally as fabulous and useful as they were in their first life...

And...ta-da!!! Towel rings transformed into door k***s! Our Dame Design and Build team (ok, fine, mostly Nick 😉) designed and made the backplates to give the hardware a little extra presence, and now that they're installed, these pretty babies are something you can't help but notice! That's what we're all about...The little details that have a story and add layers of specialness to our client's homes.

Have you ever randomly found yourself in art? Like actually been like, “OMG that IS me!” but it's not actually you, it’s just your idea of who you are??? That was me one Friday morning not too long ago when I came across Portland-based artist Theresa Bear. I saw her print titled “She’s Blooming Worth” and I was like “IT’S ME!!!” i.e. Me with my head completely immersed in flowers, hiding from the real world of responsibilities... Avoiding doing taxes (🙄), wearing fab blue satin virus gloves, and a vintage floral jacket that kinda makes me look like a crazy old lady...But I don’t care, I have an old lady’s soul and I’m just happy that for once in my life something vintage fits me, and I’m just being ME. Ridiculous me. So I HAD to have it!

So, I clicked over to Theresa’s website and fell in love.
Theresa’s goal is to find and give voice to unstoppable magic. (You know, the kind that lives inside and around all of us.)
Sometimes I think we actually NEED huge works of art in our faces that remind us of...us.

Do yourself a Friday Favor and scroll through Theresa’s stunning floral portraiture…The She Is Magic collection is particularly gorgeous! Can we talk about the succulent bow ties in the Fall gallery? WHY don’t people actually wear those??? When my dream comes true and there is a huge Dame Manor B&B/Design House, the staff will wear succulent bowties and the headmistresses will wear floral crowns like the crown in Nature Always Wins.

Oh, and that last image, I obviously HAD to have that one too because that is TOTALLY Nick. Hiding from me. Like, “Pssst…I’m back here...Think she’ll find me??? She was talking about MORE trim!?! I know! She’s crazy! Let me know when she’s on to something else... And just like, bring me a pickle every once in a while, ok?”

And that’s our life story told through botanical portraiture! My new is to have actual portraits done by Theresa AND for the real Dame Manor B&B to exist!

4) The art and frames get ordered, you hang it (with some helpful tips and tricks from us!), and voila! Your walls will have that designer touch!

We're working on a new project at Dame Manor!!!!! Can you even? Are you ready to see ‪87077687‬ progress pics and wait two whole years for the reveal?

In case you're new around here, that's how things go at Dame Manor. That's because we basically do everything ourselves...and by "we" I mean Nick. He actually does mostly everything except the vision part and the demanding things get done faster part. He's in charge of making the dreams come to life and I'm in charge of completely changing my mind right before he's done. It's my specialty 💁🏻‍♀️

Anyway, we're using our favorite Windsor One molding for the layered crown and mantel and the samples arrived today...😍 The dimension, the projection, the shadows, the lines, the curves- they are EVERYTHING!!! Trim is the character and soul for our spaces. Is it weird to caress trim samples? 😅

You might have noticed that layers and layers of molding is kinda our thing.

Beyond baseboard and crown molding, you don't see too much molding in new construction. We wanna change that 😉

We want new houses to look and feel like they've been around demanding some respect for awhile. Molding is one of our FAVORITE ways to add soul and charm to a new house. Every layer of molding shows all the thought, craftsmanship, artistry, and giving a F about detail that went into a design.

The part we don't like so much about adding layers of molding? The MATH. If we're being real, the nitty gritty details and the projection dimensions can sometimes (scratch that, ALWAYS) make us pull our hair out. When most people run away from the complicated steps, we face them head on because we KNOW the end results will be worth it. We KNOW we're gonna be caressing that molding!
